  • Phillies' Rafael Marchan: Goes deep in win

Marchan went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Cubs.

Marchan's homer was his second in his last four games, and this was his second multi-hit effort of the season. The catcher is batting .250 with three homers, five RBI, six runs scored, two doubles and no stolen bases over 39 plate appearances. Marchan and Garrett Stubbs continue to split the catching duties while J.T. Realmuto recovers from a right knee surgery.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Alvarez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez started the first two games of the series but will sit Wednesday after going 3-for-10 with a double, a triple, three RBI and six strikeouts. Luis Torrens will handle the catching duties for rookie righty Christian Scott.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Receiving breather

Bailey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

Bailey will get the day off Wednesday after catching four straight games. Curt Casali will fill in behind the dish and bat eighth.

  • Ivan Herrera DH | STL

Cardinals' Ivan Herrera: Beginning rehab assignment

Herrera (back) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Herrera is slated to catch five innings with Memphis on Thursday for his first game action since being placed on the IL on June 22 due to back soreness. Even when healthy, it's unclear if Herrera will stick around with the Cardinals considering Willson Contreras and Pedro Pages are both active.

  • Riley Adams C | WAS

Nationals' Riley Adams: Rejoins major-league roster

The Nationals recalled Adams from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Adams was optioned a month ago following a slump at the plate, but he's back after posting a .946 OPS with six homers in 22 games at Rochester. He will back up Keibert Ruiz.

  • Drew Millas C | WAS

Nationals' Drew Millas: Heads back to Triple-A

The Nationals optioned Millas to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

The Nationals are swapping out backup catchers, with Riley Adams returning to back up Keibert Ruiz. Millas is 5-for-30 at the dish during his time in the big leagues this season.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: On bench Wednesday

Murphy is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

After making back-to-back starts behind the dish, Murphy will give way to Travis d'Arnaud on Wednesday. Murphy swatted a solo home run in Tuesday's series opener against San Francisco.

  • Pirates' Yasmani Grandal: Taking seat Wednesday

Grandal is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

Grandal will yield to Joey Bart behind the dish Wednesday. Grandal has logged merely three hits in his last 23 at-bats with two RBI and no runs.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Returns to action

Stephenson started at catcher, batted fifth and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Yankees.

Stephenson's availability to play was thrown into doubt after the Reds transferred him from the paternity list to the family medical emergency list. The transfer gave the Reds the option to not activate Stephenson for Tuesday, but the catcher was ready to go.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Hitting on field Tuesday

Realmuto (knee) participated in receiving drills and hit on the field ahead of Thursday's road game against the Cubs, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

The veteran catcher has recently been hitting in the batting cage but is now ready to hit on the field for the first time since undergoing meniscus surgery June 12. Realmuto still has significant work to do in his rehab program, but a return shortly after the All-Star break appears to be a reasonable target for his activation.
