  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Sitting down Thursday

Smith isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Smith went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored during Wednesday's loss, and he'll get a breather for Thursday's rubber match. Austin Barnes will start at catcher instead and bat ninth.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Calf remains tight

Diaz said his calf is still a little bit tight Thursday, which is why he's not sprinting full out on the bases, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Diaz was reinstated from the 10-day injured list June 30 after nursing a left calf strain. Since his return, the catcher is 6-for-18 with two doubles. However, it appears the calf injury is still lingering, as the 33-year-old says he will be careful about it.

  • Henry Davis RF | PIT

Pirates' Henry Davis: Resuming rehab assignment

Davis (concussion) will resume a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Davis was pulled off a rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona this past weekend after he experienced recurring concussion symptoms. However, he's evidently passed the necessary protocols and will resume things in Indianapolis. Davis could be ready for activation soon if he can avoid another setback, but he's not guaranteed to return to the big-league roster at that time.

  • Austin Wynns C | ATH

Reds' Austin Wynns: Outrighted to Louisville

Wynns cleared waivers Thursday and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

The 33-year-old backstop was dropped from the 40-man roster Tuesday following the return of Tyler Stephenson but will remain in the Reds' farm system instead of testing his luck in the open market. Wynns has slashed .250/.309/.410 in 110 plate appearances with the Bats, and he would be the first choice to return to Cincinnati should Stephenson or Luke Maile need to miss an extended period of time.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Return before break not ruled out

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that Realmuto (knee) is working out at 70-to-75 percent intensity, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Realmuto is three weeks removed from right meniscus surgery and is progressing nicely. The club is not ruling out a return for their starting catcher prior to the All-Star break if he proves to be ready by then, but it's probably more likely that Realmuto is held out until the start of the second half.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Day of rest Thursday

Stephenson is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Stephenson was behind the dish for the first two games of the series, so it makes sense to give him a breather for Thursday's matinee. Luke Maile will do the catching for Frankie Montas.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Clubs fourth homer

Moreno went 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers.

Moreno doubled in his first at-bat before adding a two-run shot in the third to tie the game at 4-4. The catcher went on to reach three times in the contest and has now hit safely in each of his first two games since returning from a thumb injury. It marked Moreno's third three-hit performance of the campaign, and he's now homered in two of his last three games (dating back to June 21).

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Day off Thursday

Ruiz is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.

Ruiz caught the first three games of the series, so he's due for a day off during Thursday's matinee. Riley Adams will do the catching for Jake Irvin.

  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Swats first homer since return

Contreras went 1-for-3 with two walks and a two-run home run in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Pirates.

The 32-year-old catcher tied the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning by taking Colin Holderman deep. It was Contreras' seventh homer of the year but his first in nine games since returning from a fractured forearm, a stretch in which he's batting just .200 (6-for-30). He does have extra-base hits in back-to-back contests after ripping a double Tuesday, however, so he's showing signs of regaining his form at the plate. On the campaign, Contreras is slashing .263/.395/.504 through 40 games.

  • Phillies' Rafael Marchan: Goes deep in win

Marchan went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Cubs.

Marchan's homer was his second in his last four games, and this was his second multi-hit effort of the season. The catcher is batting .250 with three homers, five RBI, six runs scored, two doubles and no stolen bases over 39 plate appearances. Marchan and Garrett Stubbs continue to split the catching duties while J.T. Realmuto recovers from a right knee surgery.
