The Cardinals placed Herrera (knee) on the 10-day injured list Monday.

Herrera tweaked his left knee while running the bases in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader versus the Red Sox. He was diagnosed with inflammation after tests on his knee came back negative, but Herrera has since headed back to St. Louis to be evaluated further before the Cardinals determine how long he might be out. While Herrera is sidelined, Pedro Pages will serve as the Cardinals' primary catcher.

Pages combined to go 2-for-9 with two doubles and three RBI during Sunday's doubleheader against Boston.

Pages entered Game 1 of the doubleheader and went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI after Ivan Herrera suffered a knee injury. Herrera will be heading to the injured list, though his timeline is currently unclear. Pages followed up his strong Game 1 performance by going 0-for-5 with two punchouts in Game 2. Still, he should move into a primary role until Herrera is ready to return. Pages is slashing .316/.316/.632 with four extra-base hits through seven appearances.

Herrera (knee) is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list ahead of Monday's game against the Pirates, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Baldwin is expected to serve as Atlanta's backup catcher after Sean Murphy (ribs) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and Chadwick Tromp was designated for assignment Sunday.

Baldwin served as Atlanta's primary backstop for the first week-plus of the campaign but struggled in his first taste of the big leagues, going 4-for-26 with a double, an RBI and three walks in seven games. The 24-year-old prospect seemed likely to return to the minors with Murphy ready to come off the IL, but Baldwin will instead retain his place on the big-league roster. That may not be a long-term move though, since Atlanta is likely to want Baldwin to get consistent reps behind the plate, and that's not expected to happen with Murphy poised to be a regular presence in the lineup.

Atlanta designated Tromp for assignment Sunday.

With Sean Murphy (rib) completing his rehab assignment and ready to return from the 10-day injured list in advance of the big club's next game Tuesday versus Philadelphia, Atlanta elected to activate him a couple days early. Tromp ended up being the casualty, as he'll surrendered his spot on the 26-man active roster to Tromp while also losing his spot on the 40-man roster since he doesn't have minor-league options remaining. Atlanta is hopeful Tromp will go unclaimed off waivers and stick around in the organization as catching depth at Triple-A Gwinnett. Tromp appeared in just two of Atlanta's first nine games while Drake Baldwin dominated the playing time behind the plate.

Amaya is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Amaya will take a seat for the second day in a row while the Cubs hand Carson Kelly another start. Through the Cubs' first 11 games, Kelly has amassed an impressive 1.658 OPS, so the club could be inclined to favor him over Amaya until the former's bat cools down.

Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Contreras will receive his first day off this season after making eight starts at catcher and one at designated hitter through Milwaukee's first nine games. Eric Haase will handle catching duties in the series finale.

Trevino is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

He'll take a seat for the day game after he went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two RBI and two additional runs in Saturday's 11-7 win. Austin Wynns will pick up the start at catcher Sunday.
