  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Grabbing seat Thursday

Moreno is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.

Moreno started at catcher in each of the first two contests of the series, so he'll take a break in Thursday's matinee. Jose Herrera will be behind the plate and bat ninth for the Diamondbacks.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Out of Cubs' lineup

Kelly is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Pittsburgh.

Kelly started at catcher in the first two games of the series but will sit out Thursday's afternoon tilt. Miguel Amaya is at catcher and batting seventh in the rubber game of the series.

  • Pedro Pages C | STL

    Cardinals' Pedro Pages: Resting Thursday

Pages is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds.

Pages went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI groundout while catching all nine innings of the Cardinals' 9-1 win Wednesday night in the second game of a doubleheader, but he'll get a breather Thursday while St. Louis and Cincinnati conclude their series with a game that begins at 12:40 p.m. ET. Yohel Pozo will handle the catching duties for St. Louis.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Pirates' Joey Bart: Receiving afternoon off

Bart is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

Bart will get a breather for the day game after he went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and a run scored while catching eight innings of the Pirates' 4-3 win Wednesday night. Henry Davis will check in for Bart behind the dish in the series finale.

  • Elias Diaz C | SD

Padres' Elias Diaz: Two hits, homer in win

Diaz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Giants.

Diaz extended San Diego's lead to 2-0 in the third inning with a homer off Landen Roupp, his second this season. Following a rough 1-for-20 stretch, Diaz has now recorded back-to-back two-hit games, boosting his slash line to .214/.313/.339 with five RBI and eight runs scored across 65 plate appearances this year.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Activation decision coming

Stephenson (oblique) went 0-for-3 with two walks and a run scored for Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Stephenson started at catcher and caught nine innings for the third time this week, including back-to-back days Tuesday and Wednesday. He's expected to make at least one more start during the Bats' doubleheader Thursday before the Reds make a decision regarding his activation, MLB.com reports. Stephenson is up to 28 plate appearances while on his rehab assignment.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Smashes second homer in win

Realmuto went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and an additional run scored in Wednesday's win over the Nationals.

It was the first home run since April 15 for Realmuto, who has now reached base safely in 14 of his last 15 games. During this stretch, the veteran backstop has still gone a relatively quiet 14-for-58 (.241) with two homers, three doubles, five RBI and seven runs scored. On the bright side, Realmuto has already doubled his steals output from 99 contests in the 2024 regular season with four stolen bases in just 26 outings this year.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Reds' Jose Trevino: Resting in second game of day

Trevino is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals.

Trevino will get a breather for the nightcap after he went 1-for-3 while catching all nine innings of the Reds' 6-0 loss in Game 1. Austin Wynns will receive the nod behind the dish for Game 2.

  • Elias Diaz C | SD

Padres' Elias Diaz: Getting second straight start

Diaz will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Giants.

Diaz and Martin Maldonado have now made 15 starts apiece behind the plate through the Padres' first 30 games of the season, but the former offers more offensive upside at this stage of his career and could eventually recapture the lion's share of the playing time at catcher. The Padres will hand Diaz his second straight start after he brought his season average up to .192 with a 2-for-4 performance in Tuesday's 7-4 win.

  • Padres' Martin Maldonado: Sitting in second straight

Maldonado is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

Maldonado will hit the bench for the second day in a row while Elias Diaz picks up another start behind the dish. The playing time at catcher had been tilting in Maldonado's favor in recent weeks, but Diaz brings more offensive upside to the table and showed signs of breaking out of his season-long funk at the plate Tuesday, when he went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the Padres' 7-4 win. Maldonado could see his opportunities take a hit if Diaz is able to build on Tuesday's performance.
