  • Matt Thaiss C | BOS

Angels' Matt Thaiss: Out against lefty

Thaiss is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

After going 2-for-8 with a double while starting the first two games of the series, the lefty-hitting Thaiss will take a seat for the finale with southpaw Framber Valdez on the bump for Houston. David Fletcher will slide over to third base while Thaiss sits, opening up the keystone for Luis Rengifo.

  • Rays' Travis d'Arnaud: Idle Sunday

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

D'Arnaud will sit for the second time in the four-game series while Mike Zunino logs a turn behind the dish. The backstop has slowed down a bit in August with a .206/.278/.238 slash line across 18 games, but he still appears locked in as the Rays' preferred option behind the dish.

  • Indians' Roberto Perez: Resting Sunday

Perez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.

Perez is batting just .138/.219/.259 in August, but his excellent track record as a defender will continue to make him the Tribe's top option behind the plate. He'll just be getting some maintenance for the afternoon contest after drawing the past two starts at catcher. Kevin Plawecki will fill in for Perez in the series finale.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Mariners' Omar Narvaez: Blasts three-run homer

Narvaez went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Blue Jays.

Narvaez's fifth-inning blast gave the Mariners a 5-2 lead at the time, but the bullpen was unable to protect that advantage. Narvaez has homered in consecutive games, giving him 19 on the year. The catcher is hitting .287/.361/.473 with 47 RBI and 56 runs scored across 355 at-bats.

  • Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Sent down to Triple-A

Bemboom was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.

Bemboom was sent down in conjunction with fellow catcher Kevan Smith returning from the injured list. In 22 at-bats with the Angels, Bemboom hit only .136 with one home run and three RBI while striking out nine times.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Rangers' Jose Trevino: Sits again Saturday

Trevino is out of the lineup Saturday against the White Sox.

Jeff Mathis will start and hit ninth against right-hander Ivan Nova. Trevino has consistently split time with Mathis behind the plate since being called up July 31. The 26-year-old catcher is 4-for-16 with four runs scored in his last five starts and is slashing just .154/.185/.192 in 28 plate appearances against righties.

  • Gary Sanchez DH | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Absent from Saturday's lineup

Sanchez is not in Saturday's lineup against the Dodgers.

Sanchez will take a seat as the Yankees are playing a day game after Friday night's victory over the Dodgers. Austin Romine will take over behind the plate and bat eighth in his absence.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Mariners' Omar Narvaez: Supplies 18th homer

Narvaez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-4 win over the Blue Jays.

Narvaez's blast came off Blue Jays starter Trent Thornton in the second inning to get the Mariners on the board. The catcher is hitting .286/.360/.466 with 18 homers, 44 RBI and 55 runs in 105 games this year.

  • Gary Sanchez DH | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Cranks 29th homer

Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, two runs scored and a walk in Friday's 10-2 win over the Dodgers.

Sanchez knocked a solo shot off Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu in the third inning, and then added another run on Didi Gregorius' fifth inning grand slam. The catcher is up to 29 homers with 67 RBI and 51 runs scored across 89 games this season. He has hit safely in eight of his last nine games, going 12-for-33 with four homers, eight RBI and seven runs scored over that span.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Retreats to bench

Jansen isn't in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Mariners.

Jansen is 0-for-9 at the dish over his last three contests, so he'll take a seat for Friday's series opener. Reese McGuire will handle the catching duties and hit ninth with Jansen out of the mix.
