  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Slugs fifth homer

Perez went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored Sunday against the Pirates.

Perez drove a solo home run in the third inning off Chad Kuhl to record his fifth long ball of the season. He came around to bat again in the same frame and delivered an RBI base knock to account for his production. Perez (eye) was activated from the injured list Friday and has gone 7-for-14 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and four runs scored since his return.

  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Athletics' Jonah Heim: Continues hitting Saturday

Heim went 2-for-3 with an RBI infield single in a win over the Rangers in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.

Heim split backstop duties with Sean Murphy in Saturday's twin bill, and both young catchers ended up contributing offensively. Heim added to a 4-1 Athletics lead when he legged out a third-inning grounder while Vimael Machin crossed the plate. The 25-year-old has now sandwiched a pair of two-hit efforts around an 0-for-5 tally over two other games thus far in September.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Rangers' Jose Trevino: Heads to IL

The Rangers placed Trevino (wrist) on the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Trevino hasn't played since suffering a left wrist impingement in Wednesday's game against the Angels and wasn't progressing quickly, so the Rangers will shut him down for the time being, with the hope that he might be ready to return for the final week of the regular season. Jeff Mathis and Sam Huff will share catching duties while Trevino is sidelined.

  • Matt Thaiss C | BOS

Angels' Matt Thaiss: Returns to bench role

Thaiss is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

He'll be on the bench for the third straight game, and Thaiss is expected to stick in a reserve role for the foreseeable future after the Angels brought back David Fletcher (ankle) from the injured list Saturday. Thaiss has appeared in eight games with the big club this season, going 3-for-21 with a home run.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Athletics' Sean Murphy: Heads to bench Sunday

Murphy is not in Sunday's lineup against the Rangers.

Murphy is heating up at the dish, batting .400 with three home runs in 20 at-bats this month. Jonah Heim will start behind the dish and hit eighth.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Rangers' Jose Trevino: Could land on IL

Trevino (wrist), who is not in Sunday's lineup, could go on the injured list Tuesday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

He has been slow to recover from this wrist injury, and it sounds like he will hit the shelf officially when the team activates Willie Calhoun on Tuesday. Jeff Mathis will start behind the dish and hit ninth Sunday.

  • Indians' Roberto Perez: Sitting Sunday

Perez is not in Sunday's lineup against the Twins.

With Cleveland carrying three catchers, Perez's workload has been cut slightly. Sandy Leon will start behind the dish and bat eighth.

  • Rays' Michael Perez: Heads to bench Sunday

Perez is not in Sunday's lineup against the Red Sox.

Perez is 5-for-20 with two doubles, two walks and five strikeouts in nine games this month. Kevan Smith will start behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Athletics' Sean Murphy: Drives in pair

Murphy went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in the second game of a doubleheader against the Rangers on Saturday.

Murphy was out of the lineup for the early game Saturday but was a key contributor in the second contest. He delivered a two-run single in the second inning and came around to score later that frame. Murphy has now reached base multiple times in three of his last four starts, collecting six hits and six walks in that span. Overall this season, he is hitting .247/.374/.449 across 107 plate appearances.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Scores three runs

Grandal went 1-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and three runs scored Saturday against the Tigers.

Grandal reached base a total of three times and came around to score on each occasion. He has swung the bat well of late, as he now has a seven-game hitting streak during which he's collected 10 hits in 26 at-bats to go along with two home runs, eight RBI and nine runs scored.
