  • Astros' Cesar Salazar: Sent back to Triple-A

Houston optioned Salazar to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

With Yainer Diaz and Victor Caratini at full health, Salazar is expendable. He'll lose his spot on the active roster in order for Zach Cole to have his contract selected. Salazar is 3-for-13 (.231) with a 2:2 BB:K in 11 big-league games this season.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Sitting out Friday

Dingler is not in the lineup for Friday's contest in Miami.

Dingler will get a breather after catching each of the previous three games. Jake Rogers will be behind the plate and bat ninth for the Tigers.

  • Rangers' Kyle Higashioka: Taking seat Friday

Higashioka is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets.

Higashioka is out of the lineup for the second time in three games, yielding to Jonah Heim behind the dish for Friday's series opener. In his last 11 games, Higashioka is 10-for-40 with two home runs and three doubles.

  • Edgar Quero C | CHW

White Sox's Edgar Quero: Getting breather Friday

Quero is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Guardians.

Quero will get the day off Friday after making three straight starts -- two at DH and one at catcher. Kyle Teel will slot in behind the plate while Andrew Benintendi serves as the designated hitter.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Collects two RBI vs. Bronx Bombers

Dingler went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and an RBI single during the Tigers' 9-3 loss to the Yankees on Thursday.

Dingler put the Tigers on the board in the second inning with an RBI single before logging his second RBI of the night on a solo homer in the seventh. Dingler has been hot at the plate as of late, having gone 14-for-37 (.378) with two home runs and four RBI over his last 10 games.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Likely to return near minimum

O'Hoppe (concussion) is expected to return to the lineup during the Angels' upcoming series at Milwaukee, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

O'Hoppe has been sidelined with a concussion since Monday and is reportedly feeling better. It's unclear if he'll be activated for the start of the series against the Brewers when first eligible Tuesday, but his absence should be relatively brief.

  • Angels' Sebastian Rivero: Riding pine Thursday

Rivero isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game versus Seattle, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Rivero started three straight games behind the plate upon coming up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday, going 3-for-11 with two RBI and three runs scored in the process. He'll now receive a day off with Travis d'Arnaud set to catch for Jose Soriano.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Breather for day game

Kirk is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Astros.

Kirk started at catcher each of the previous three contests, so he'll get some rest during Thursday's matinee. Tyler Heineman will do the catching and bat eighth for the Blue Jays.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Produces team's lone run in loss

Wells went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday in a loss to the Tigers.

Wells' eighth-inning homer was merely a consolation in keeping the Yankees from being shut out, as it made the score 8-1 in favor of Detroit. Nonetheless, it was a positive sign for the alertness of Wells' bat, as he had gone 1-for-12 over his previous 16 plate appearances. Wells has an unremarkable .715 OPS on the campaign, but he's been a good source of power from the catcher position with 21 homers and 66 RBI through 113 contests.

  • Yainer Diaz C | HOU

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Delivers clutch homer

Diaz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Diaz came through with a clutch home run, delivering a solo home run in the ninth inning to put the Astros up for good. He has multiple hits in three of his last four starts, recording three extra-base hits, six RBI and two runs scored. Diaz now has 19 home runs on the season and will have the chance to reach 20 long balls for the second time in three big-league campaigns.
