McGuire will start at catcher and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Blue Jays.

McGuire will make the first of what will likely be two or three starts versus Toronto after the Red Sox placed top backstop Connor Wong (personal) on the paternity list Monday. Assuming Wong is away from the Red Sox for the maximum three games, McGuire will presumably move back into the No. 2 role following Thursday's team off day. The Red Sox called up Tyler Heineman from Triple-A Worcester to provide an insurance option at catcher behind McGuire while Wong is on paternity leave.

He will likely miss the entirety of the three-game set versus Toronto before rejoining the active roster Friday, when the Red Sox take on the Padres. Wong will put his season-best 13-game hitting streak on hold while he's away from the Red Sox.

Wong will get a break after he started behind the plate in all three of the Red Sox's games in Cincinnati over the weekend. Reese McGuire will receive the starting nod at catcher in Monday's series opener while Wong puts his 13-game hitting streak on hold, barring an appearance off the bench as a pinch hitter.

Wong went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Reds.

Wong got the Red Sox started with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, extending a hit streak to 13 games (17-for-48, .354). The catcher, who entered 2024 with a career .232 batting average, is up to .330 for the season.

Diaz went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's victory against the Orioles.

Diaz knocked an RBI single in the first inning and later brought home two more runs with a pair of sacrifice flies. After hitting .200 in May, the 25-year-old has gone 18-for-57 (.316) in 15 June contests. Diaz owns a .704 OPS with 37 RBI and 31 runs scored in 67 games.

Astros general manager Dana Brown said Sunday that Caratini (hip) could be out for 3-to-4 weeks, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Caratini landed on the 10-day injured list Friday after sustaining a left hip flexor strain Wednesday against the White Sox. A four-week timeline would put Caratini's return after the All-Star break. Prior to hitting the shelf, the 30-year-old catcher was slashing .248/.287/.429 with four home runs and 17 RBI over 115 plate appearances.

Fry was removed from Sunday's game against Toronto due to right elbow inflammation, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Fry delivered an RBI single during the first inning of Sunday's contest before being replaced behind the plate by Bo Naylor in the third. The Guardians are currently viewing Fry as day-to-day, though he will likely undergo further testing to determine the extent of his injury.

Jeffers isn't in the Twins' lineup for Sunday's game against Oakland.

Jeffers has alternated starts behind the plate with Christian Vazquez for most of June, and Sunday will simply mark Vazquez's turn to serve as Minnesota's catcher while batting ninth.

Heim is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Royals.

Heim will sit Sunday after going 0-for-4 with one run, one RBI and four walks over the first two games of the series. Andrew Knizner will start behind home plate and bat eighth against Kansas City right-hander Alec Marsh.

McCann is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against Houston.

McCann will sit for a second straight game Sunday after going 0-for-3 with one walk and two strikeouts in Friday's 14-11 loss. Adley Rutschman will serve behind home plate Sunday and bat in the leadoff spot against Astros southpaw Framber Valdez.
