Royals catcher Salvador Perez returned to the starting lineup Sunday against the Tigers after sitting out Saturday with a shin injury. Perez is batting .157 (8 for 51) with two doubles, two home runs and five RBI in his last 13 games.

Royals catcher Salvador Perez was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to a shin injury.

Perez was initially scheduled to play, but will take a day to recover. He was removed from Friday's game with the injury, and is considered day-to-day. Perez is hitting .228 in 101 at-bats.

The Indians announced several roster moves prior to Saturday's clash against the White Sox, MLB.com reports.

The team placed catcher Yan Gomes on the paternity list and designated infielder Elliot Johnson for assignment. In exchange, the Indians recalled pitcher Nick Hagadone from Triple-A and purchased the contract of catcher George Kottaras from Triple-A.

Indians catcher Yan Gomes has been racking up strikeouts. He has struck out at least once in 14 of his last 15 games, totaling 22 strikeouts to just four walks in that span.

Gomes had a fairly quiet first month offensively. He hit three home runs, but totaled just eight RBI and a .250 batting average. He totaled 26 strikeouts to four walks in 25 games.

Royals catcher Salvador Perez has put together a nice stretch in recent days, capped off by a four-RBI performance Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Perez played a big part in a 10-7 win, as he drove in two runs in each the seventh and eighth innings. He slugged a two-run homer in the seventh and added a two-run double one inning later, the latter of which gave the Royals a lead they would not relinquish.

Perez is now 7 for 13 over the last three games to raise his batting average to .250 on the season. He has two home runs and 10 RBI in 24 games.

It's a normal day of rest for Perez. He'll get rest after a night game Wednesday. Brett Hayes will get the start behind the plate. Perez has struggled to open the year, hitting just .213 over 75 at-bats.

Perez was 0 for 21 in his previous five games coming into Wednesday's matchup, and outside of the home run, he continued to struggle, striking out three times. He has hit .213/.289/.347 in 75 at-bats.

Royals catcher Salvador Perez entered play Friday on a six-game streak of drawing at least one walk but went 0 for 4 with no free passes in his team's 10-1 loss to the Twins.

Perez has been difficult to keep off base in the early part of the season, drawing eight walks during his six-game base-on-balls streak. He owns a .393/.528/.536 line with two RBI in 28 at-bats.

Yan Gomes will not have to crouch behind the plate again in the doubleheader nightcap for the Indians on Wednesday. But he will serve as the designated hitter against San Diego left-hander Robbie Erlin while Carlos Santana takes over as the starting catcher.

Gomes took starter Ricky Nolasco deep for a two-run home run in the second inning. He finished the game 1 for 5 with one run scored and five RBI in a 10-7 defeat. He is hitting .222/.250/.556 with two homers and four RBI in 18 at-bats.
