Indians hot-hitting catcher Yan Gomes has been given the day off for the Wednesday game against Tigers ace Max Scherzer. Carlos Santana will replace him behind the plate with Lonnie Chisenhall playing third.
Gomes has hit safely in seven of his last games and is 11 for 32 during that stretch. He has raised his batting average from .255 to .277 in the last two weeks.

X-rays on the injured thumb of Royals catcher Salvador Perez have come back clean, the Kansas City Star reports.
Perez went 0 for 4 in his team's loss to the White Sox Monday before being removed from the game. He'll rest the injured thumb for a few days before the team re-evaluates his status. Perez has hit .261/.319/.418 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 153 at-bats.

Gomes smacked a three-run home run in the ninth inning that ended up being his team's final runs in a huge offensive effort. He has hit .269/.313/.487 with six home runs and 17 RBI in 119 at-bats.

Salvador Perez likely to get Sunday off to rest calf
Royals catcher Salvador Perez will likely be given Sunday off to rest his sore calf, MLB.com reports.
"Yes, he'll probably get the day off," manager Ned Yost said Saturday. "It's not the shin, it's the calf. He's got a real big bruise on it and all that blood's draining down toward his ankle. It's still sore ... The more running he does, the more it hurts. He starts off the day feeling pretty good but at the end of the day it's sore, but playable."
Perez was struck on the injured calf by a foul ball during an at-bat on May 2. He has hit .260/.319/.425 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 127 at-bats.
