Gomes is not in Wednesday's starting lineup against the Pirates, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Gomes is set for a day off as Jameson Taillon is set to toe the rubber for the opposition. Roberto Perez will handle the catching duties and bat eighth with Gomes riding the bench.

Perez went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's win over the Tigers.

Perez singled home a run in the third, then provided a solo shot in the fifth inning and a double in the eighth. The .227/.264/.414 slash line isn't quite up to par with what the 28-year-old has typically produced, but he's managed to still be a valuable contributor with 15 homers and 47 RBI.

Sanchez, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with a right groin strain, will miss at least a couple weeks, Marc Carig of The Athletic New York reports.

While he will be eligible to return Aug. 3, it seems more likely that he is out until at least the following week. Sanchez said he aggravated the exact same injury that cost him 20 games recently. Austin Romine will serve as the starting catcher while Kyle Higashioka works as the backup while Sanchez is sidelined.

Higashioka was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

With Gary Sanchez (groin) back on the disabled list, Higashioka was summoned to serve as the short-term backup behind Austin Romine. He was hitting .198 with five home runs in 209 plate appearances at Triple-A.

Garver is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Blue Jays, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Garver, who has been starting roughly two-thirds of the Twins' games lately, will head to the bench against lefty Ryan Borucki. Bobby Wilson will get the start behind the dish and hit ninth.

Leon is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Orioles, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

He is hitting just .118 (4-for-34) over his last 10 games, but has been Boston's unquestioned No. 1 catcher over that stretch, sitting just twice since July 8. Blake Swihart will start behind the dish, hitting ninth and catching Drew Pomeranz in a MLB game for the first time in his career.

Sanchez was placed on the disabled list Tuesday after an MRI confirmed that he reinjured his groin, Buster Olney of ESPN reports.

This makes sense, given that Sanchez dogged a couple plays in Monday's game in a manner that hinted at him being limited with a lower-body injury. It is unclear how much time he will miss, but he was sidelined for 20 games with his last groin injury (a Grade 1 strain). Kyle Higashioka will likely be recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to serve as the backup catcher while Tuesday's starter, Austin Romine, serves as the go-to backstop.

More news should trickle out if he did indeed reinjure himself. Austin Romine will start behind the dish and hit ninth.

Sanchez certainly looked slow late in the game, when he failed to run out a groundball. The incident appeared at first to be just a lack of hustle, though an injury would provide a believable alternative explanation. The catcher just returned from the disabled list after missing nearly a month with a groin strain. If he is indeed injured again and unable to run out grounders, another trip to the DL is a distinct possibility. The situation should become clearer in the next few days.

McCann went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Monday's win over the Royals.

McCann has been struggling in July, as he entered this game slashing just .204/.250/.347 this month, and this was the catcher's first three-hit performance since June 15. Maybe this strong performance will get the 28-year-old going as it's generally been a disappointing campaign to date.
