Guardians' Austin Hedges: Filling in for resting Naylor
Hedges will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Hedges will pick up his 43rd start of the season while top backstop Bo Naylor rests for the day game after a night game. Though Hedges continues to bring value through his game-calling abilities, he's remained an easy out at the plate in his age-32 season, slashing .140/.232/.240 across 141 plate appearances.

In that span, he's hit .419 with two home runs, 10 RBI and eight runs scored. That surge has him up to a .266/.311/.547 slash line with 29 homers, 65 RBI, 60 runs scored, 23 doubles and five stolen bases through 101 contests on the year. Over his last 11 games, Diaz is slashing an impressive .333/.391/.476 with a pair of home runs, but he'll head to the bench for the second time in three contests nonetheless. Though Victor Caratini will get the nod behind the plate Tuesday, Diaz still appears to have a firm grasp on the No. 1 catcher job.
