Hinch said Friday that Dingler's availability for the rest of the series was uncertain due to his injured right thumb, but he's been cleared to work as the DH and could return behind the plate in Sunday's first-half finale, per Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. Dingler had gone 9-for-32 (.281) with two RBI and six runs scored in his last eight games before getting injured.

    The Athletics recalled Serven from Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday.

    Serven will return to the majors as the roster replacement for Nick Kurtz, who landed on the injured list Saturday with a sprained thumb. With Shea Langeliers and Jonah Heim both already on the active roster, Serven will likely see limited time behind the plate.

  • Orioles' Samuel Basallo: Belts go-ahead homer Friday

    Basallo went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 5-3 win over the Royals.

    Friday's game was tied 3-3 in the eighth inning, but Basallo changed that with one swing of the bat, crushing a two-run homer to right field to give the Orioles a two-run lead that they did not relinquish. The 21-year-old is up to 15 home runs this season, which is tied with Drake Baldwin for fourth-most among catchers behind Hunter Goodman (27), Shea Langeliers (20) and Dillon Dingler (thumb) (19). Basallo has a .770 OPS with 44 RBI across 293 plate appearances in 2026.

    O'Hoppe is not in the Angels' starting lineup against the Twins on Friday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

    Tyler Heineman will start at catcher for Friday's series opener and form a battery with the returning Grayson Rodriguez (back). O'Hoppe is slashing .220/.281/.317 with four home runs and 23 RBI across 225 plate appearances this season.

    Narvaez is not in the Red Sox's starting lineup against the Mets on Friday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

    Narvaez will take a seat for Friday's series opener with Connor Wong starting behind home plate and batting eighth while catching pitches from Sonny Gray. Narvaez has a .529 OPS with one steal, two home runs and six RBI over 170 plate appearances this season.

    Manager A.J. Hinch said Friday that Eduardo Valencia will start at catcher Saturday against the Phillies, and it's uncertain if Dingler (thumb) will play in Sunday's series finale, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

    Dingler is not in the lineup for Friday's series opener against Philadelphia, as Jake Rogers is doing the catching and batting ninth. Valencia will catch Saturday, suggesting Dingler has already been ruled out for that game. Hinch said Dingler is progressing with his bruised thumb, but he remains day-to-day. It's possible Dingler will remain sidelined through the All-Star break.

    The Twins activated Jeffers (hand) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

    Jeffers suffered a fractured left hamate bone May 18 and has missed the last 46 games, but he appears ready to return to the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Angels. Jeffers was on a tear at the plate before going down, slashing .295/.408/.541 with seven homers, 26 RBI, 26 runs scored, one stolen base and a 23:23 BB:K across 148 trips to the dish.

    Yankees' Austin Wells: Goes deep Thursday

    Wells went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and a walk in a 12-4 win over Tampa Bay on Thursday.

    Wells got in on a big day for New York's offense when he took Cam Booser deep to right field in the fourth inning. It was only the fifth homer of the campaign by the backstop, and his first since May 22. Even with the long ball, Wells has accumulated a putrid .314 OPS with a 1:14 BB:K across 16 games since his June 21 return from an IL stint. He's in the midst of a career-worst season, slashing .151/.246/.242 with a 27.8 percent strikeout rate and just 11 RBI through 212 plate appearances.
