Twins' Royce Lewis: Smacks two home runs in win

Lewis went 2-for-3 with two home runs and a walk in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Blue Jays in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series.

Lewis provided all the offense in this contest, as he had Kevin Gausman's number from the start and made sure to take advantage in both the first and third innings. The rookie third baseman had been on a power binge of sorts heading into the postseason, with five home runs in his 15 games to close out the regular season. During that span, he slashed .315/.422/.630 with 12 runs and 19 RBI.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Undergoes elbow surgery

Machado underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the extensor tendon in his right elbow, Bernie Wilson of the Associated Press reports.

Machado's estimated recovery timeline is between 4-to-6 months. While that likely means he will be sidelined for the vast majority of spring training, there is a chance he'll be ready to go for Opening Day in 2024.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Diamondbacks' Jace Peterson: Added to NL Wild Card Series roster

Peterson was added to Arizona's roster on Tuesday for its NL Wild Card Series matchup against the Brewers, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Peterson was initially left off the Diamondbacks' roster, but he will be a last-minute replacement for Jake McCarthy (oblique), who injured himself during batting practice Tuesday. Peterson will give the D-backs depth at multiple positions as they look to get past Milwaukee.

  • Matt Reynolds 3B | CIN

Matt Reynolds: Elects to become free agent

Reynolds elected to become a free agent Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Reynolds made only five plate appearances in the majors this season, though he put up a respectable .865 OPS with 22 homers and 90 RBI in 115 games for the Reds' Triple-A affiliate in Louisville. The 32-year-old infielder will look to latch on with a new organization this winter.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Not in Game 1 lineup

Rivera is not in the lineup Tuesday for Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Brewers.

Evan Longoria will start at third base and bat eighth versus the Brewers and right-hander Corbin Burnes. Rivera had a promising first half this season with Arizona, but the 27-year-old slashed just .146/.234/.164 over his final 64 plate appearances dating back to the beginning of August.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Evan Longoria: Playing third base in Game 1

Longoria is starting at third base and batting eighth Tuesday in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Brewers.

Longoria and Emmanuel Rivera are Arizona's two options at third base with Jace Peterson being left off the roster for the best-of-three series versus Milwaukee. Longoria gets the call in Tuesday's opener as Rivera rides the pine. Both players struggled offensively over the final month of the regular season.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Diamondbacks' Jace Peterson: Left off roster for Round 1

Peterson did not make the roster for the Diamondbacks' NL Wild Card Series matchup against Milwaukee.

Acquired from the Athletics at the Aug. 1 trade deadline, Peterson wound up slashing just .183/.276/.258 with zero homers and four steals in 41 games (106 plate appearances) for Arizona. Evan Longoria and Emmanuel Rivera will be the options at third base in the Diamondbacks' best-of-three series versus the Brewers.

  • Taylor Walls 3B | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Gets start at shortstop

Walls is starting at shortstop and batting seventh in Tuesday's AL Wild Card Series opener versus the Rangers.

Walls didn't start two of the Rays' final three regular-season games and has posted an anemic .491 OPS since the beginning of June. However, manager Kevin Cash trusts Walls' glove at shortstop more than anyone else and that's earned him a start in Game 1.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Shifts to 60-day IL

The Cubs transferred Madrigal (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

After Chicago was officially eliminated from playoff contention Saturday, the team made a slew of roster moves ahead of Sunday's season finale versus the Brewers. Madrigal and Michael Fulmer (forearm) were both transferred to the 60-day IL for procedural reasons, as the moves opened up spots on the 40-man roster for relievers Shane Greene and Tyler Duffey. Madrigal will be activated and added back to the 40-man roster over the offseason and should be fully recovered from his right hamstring strain well in advance of spring training.

  • Rays' Junior Caminero: Not in Game 1 lineup

Caminero is not in the lineup for Tuesday's Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Rangers.

Caminero did make the Rays' roster, but he will not be in the lineup for the series opener after starting the final seven regular-season games. Tampa Bay is going with Taylor Walls at shortstop and Curtis Mead at second base Tuesday.
