Orioles third baseman Manny Machado suffered an ugly left knee injury on Monday afternoon in the seventh inning of the game in Tampa Bay. With the Orioles leading 4-2 and one out, Machado reached on an infield single to second base. 

When he reached first, Machado's left leg buckled at the knee and he went down in a heap of pain. Machado had to be taken off the field on a stretcher. 

The 21-year-old is certainly done for 2013. He was 2 for 4 in the game with a run scored and has a .283 batting average. Machado has 14 homers and leads all of baseball with 51 doubles. He's scored 88 runs this season with 71 RBI for the Orioles. 

Trevor Plouffe was left out of the Twins' starting lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers, as Eduardo Escobar got the nod at third base.

Plouffe has only one hit in his last 17 at-bats for an .059 batting average in his last four games.

Rays third baseman Evan Longoria, who was out of the lineup Sunday with flu-like symptoms but entered the game as a defensive replacement, returned to the starting lineup Monday against the Orioles.

Though he has 29 homers and an .825 OPS on the year, the 27-year-old has struggled of late, batting .130 (3 for 23) over his last six games.

Rays third baseman Evan Longoria appeared as a defensive replacement in Sunday's win over Baltimore after being scratched with flu-like symptoms before the game.

According to the club, Longoria has been dealing with the illness for a few days. His appearance extended a games played streak dating back to July 2 and indicates the issue isn't too serious.

For the fourth consecutive game, Jean Segura was left out of the Brewers' starting lineup, as Jeff Bianchi was listed as the starting shortstop against the Cardinals on Sunday.

As Brewers manager Ron Roenicke told reporters Thursday that he is taking a conservative approach to Segura's return from a hamstring injury, that leaves open the possibility that he may not come back to the lineup before the end of the season.

Rays third baseman Evan Longoria has been scratched from Sunday's starting lineup against the Orioles. Longoria is dealing with flu-like symptoms and hasn't been feeling well for the last few days, the team announced.

Longoria has played every inning since Sept. 2 and every game since July 2. He has hit .263/.340/.485 with 29 home runs and 77 RBI in 582 at-bats.

Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe was back in action Saturday afternoon at Oakland.

Plouffe singled in the fourth inning for his only hit of the evening. He finished 1 for 3 in a 9-1 defeat. He is hitting .249/.302/.396 with 14 home runs and 51 RBI over 450 at-bats.

Brewers shortstop Jean Segura could not start Saturday against the Cardinals. He is day to day with a hamstring injury. Segura is batting .296 on the year for the Brewers over 584 at-bats.

Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe returned to the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Oakland.

Plouffe had to leave Thursday's game due to a sore left wrist. He sat out Friday but is able to return.

The third baseman is batting .249 on the season entering Saturday's game. He has 14 home runs and 51 RBI over 446 at-bats.

Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado returned from a thumb injury Friday, going 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored in his team's 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Arenado hasn't been able to produce much power in recent weeks, hitting just one homer since the beginning of August. He owns a .268/.302/.407 line with 10 home runs and 50 RBI in 462 at-bats.
