Rays third baseman Evan Longoria blasted his 30th and 31st home runs of the season Wednesday during a rout of the Yankees in New York. Longoria went deep in the sixth inning for a three-run shot off David Huff and added a solo shot in the ninth to cap the blowout.

Longoria has now homered at least 30 times in three different seasons for Tampa Bay. He finished Wednesday's game going 3 for 5 with three runs scored and four RBI. Longoria is batting .266 on the season.

The third baseman, who returned from flu-like symptoms recently, has gone 5 for 9 with five RBI over his last two games against New York.

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, just placed on the 60-day DL, will receive a second opinion on his injured knee Monday, The Baltimore Sun reports Wednesday. 

Baltimore team orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens has already diagnosed Machado with a torn medial patellar ligament in his left knee and the Orioles are confident the new opinion will remain the same. 

If nothing changes, Machado will begin rehab on the knee over the next 6-8 weeks before he attempts to do some running. 

Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg indicated that third baseman Cody Asche is the "leading candidate" to start at third base in 2014, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

"He's proven defensively he can play third base," Sandberg said. "And I think his bat has played. He's shown a good steady bat. I think down the stretch it's turned into a little bit of a long season for him possibly. I understand that. But the work ethic and the quality swing for a young guy like that is pretty good."

Asche has hit .248/.319/.416 with five home runs and 22 RBI in 149 at-bats. He has served as the team's starting third baseman in 32 of the team's 45 games since his promotion in late July.

The Orioles placed third baseman Manny Machado on the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, MASNSports.com reports. He is done for the year due to a torn medial patellar ligament in his left knee. 

Machado is expected to resume running in around 6-8 weeks and should be ready to begin spring training next year for Baltimore. 

Machado's 2013 season ends with a .283/.314/.432 line, 14 home runs, 71 RBI and six stolen bases in a league-leading 667 at-bats. He also ranks first in the AL with 51 doubles.

Brewers shortstop Jean Segura remains out of the lineup with a hamstring injury, the club announced Wednesday. Segura has missed six consecutive games with the injury and at this point is at risk of missing the rest of the year.

The Athletics left Josh Donaldson out of their starting lineup for Wednesday's game at the Angels. Alberto Callaspo got the start at third base in Donaldson's absence.

Prior to Wednesday, Donaldson had started in 15 consecutive games.

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado has been diagnosed with a torn medial patella tendon ligament, the Baltimore Sun reports. He has managed to avoid damage to his ACL and MCL, making the diagnosis a positive one.

Machado will need six-to-eight weeks before the can begin light running. One source estimates that there's a 90 percent chance Machado will not need surgery to repair the injury, the Sun reports.

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado is slated to have an MRI on his injured knee Tuesday at 1PM, according to the Baltimore Sun. 

Machado left Monday's game with a knee injury, and has already had an X-ray on the knee. He's hitting .283/.314/.432 in 667 at-bats. 

The Orioles have not updated the status of injured third baseman Manny Machado, MLB.com reports. Machado underwent an X-ray on his left knee, but the results will not be read Monday. 

Machado will travel with the Orioles back to Baltimore and undergo an MRI on Tuesday. Manager Buck Showalter did not want to speculate on Machado's injury, though he is all but ruled out for the rest of the year.
