  • Cubs' Jeimer Candelario: Sent for X-rays after HBP

Candelario was sent in for X-rays on his left knee after Thursday's win over the Nationals, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

He was able to finish out the half inning after being hit on the knee by a pitch, but manager Joe Maddon took him out of the game when the Cubs took the field in the ninth inning. The results have yet to be released, so Candelario owners will have to take a wait-and-see approach with him heading into Friday. With Kris Bryant nursing an ankle injury, the Cubs are suddenly thin at third base. Tommy La Stella would be the likely fill-in candidate at the hot corner if both Candelario and Bryant are unavailable for Friday's series opener against the Reds.

  • Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Joining big-league club

The Diamondbacks recalled Vargas from Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

The 25-year-old minors lifer will make his major-league debut whenever he enters game action. Vargas has excelled at Reno this year, posting a .303/.343/.447 line with six home runs and seven stolen bases over 353 plate appearances. Of course, considering his age and his presence in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, those numbers are probably a bit inflated. Plus, he'll likely only see fleeting reserve duty, even with Nick Ahmed on the 10-day disabled list, because Ketel Marte also arrived from Reno this week.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Three hits including homer Wednesday

Rendon went 3-for-3 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Cubs.

The homer was his sixth in June and 15th on the year, and a .410 (16-for-39) tear over his last 12 games has pushed Rendon's OPS to a career-high .955. As long as the 27-year-old can avoid the injury bug that has bitten him in the past, he's well on his way to a huge fantasy campaign.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: Drives in two in Wednesday's loss

Arenado went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Giants.

Arenado plated two runs with a single in the first inning, ending a season-long streak of six games without an RBI. Even with the small drought in run production, Arenado still ranks third in the National League in RBI. He remains the centerpiece of a loaded Rockies lineup.

  • Matt Reynolds 3B | CIN

Mets' Matt Reynolds: Returns to Mets

Reynolds was called up Wednesday prior to New York's game against the Marlins, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Reynolds has been up and down a few times already this season, with the most recent transaction coming a week ago when the 26-year-old was optioned back to Triple-A Las Vegas. During his five-game stint with Las Vegas this past week, Reynolds went 7-for-20 with three home runs and five RBI from the plate. The infielder will supply more depth for the Mets, with Robert Gsellman hitting the disabled list due to a left hamstring strain.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Rockies' DJ LeMahieu: Not in Wednesday's lineup

LeMahieu (groin) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the Giants, The Denver Post's Patrick Saunders reports.

With the Rockies getting a scheduled day off Thursday, the team will give LeMahieu an extra day of rest following his exit during Tuesday's contest with a right groin cramp. In his place, Pat Valaika will man second base and bat sixth in the order. According to Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post, LeMahieu said his groin felt better Wednesday, with Bud Black chiming in that he doesn't think a trip to the DL will be necessary for the second baseman. With that in mind, LeMahieu may have a good chance at returning during the Rockies' series this weekend in Arizona.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Rockies' DJ LeMahieu: Removed early with groin cramp Tuesday

LeMahieu exited Tuesday's game against the Giants early with a right groin cramp.

LeMahieu was 0-for-2 at the plate before having to be removed from the game with the cramp. The Rockies have an off-day Thursday, and the team is hopeful that its second baseman can take a few days off and not require a trip to the disabled list. He's day-to-day for now.

  • Cubs' Jeimer Candelario: Recalled from Triple-A

Candelario was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Monday. He is starting at third base and batting sixth against the Nationals.

With Addison Russell dealing with a shoulder injury, Candelario was added to the Cubs' roster ahead of Monday's series opener with the Nationals to offer some extra infield depth. The 23-year-old was slashing .274/.366/.520 with Iowa before being promoted to the big leagues. He could head back to Iowa once Russell is healthy enough to return.

  • Cubs' Jeimer Candelario: Getting called up Monday

Candelario will be recalled from Triple-A Iowa ahead of the Cubs' game Monday against the Nationals, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

With Addison Russell exiting Sunday's game with a shoulder injury, the Cubs could use some infield depth this week. Candelario, a top-five prospect within the organization, is slashing .274/.366/.520 at Triple-A this season.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Absent from lineup Sunday

Suarez is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

Hitless in his previous three contests, Suarez will be granted the day off against Tanner Roark and the Nationals. Patrick Kivlehan takes over at third base, batting sixth.
