  • Carlos Asuaje 3B | LAD

Padres' Carlos Asuaje: Gets rare start Saturday

Asuaje started at second base and went 1-for-4 with an RBI in a win over the Dodgers on Saturday.

Asuaje has been atrocious at the plate this season (.196/.268.294) despite winning the Padres' starting second base job this spring. Manager Andy Green had seen enough, moving the 26-year-old to the bench and sliding Jose Pirela over to the keystone this past week. Saturday's start was to give Manuel Margot a day off, so expect Asuaje to resume his bench role going forward.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Heads to bench Sunday

Longoria is out of the lineup Sunday against the Braves, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Longoria will snap a streak of seven consecutive starts, over which he's started to turn things around at the plate. He's 9-for-32 over that stretch, collecting two home runs and nine RBI. Longoria will look to pick up where he left off Monday in Philadelphia, but in the meantime, Pablo Sandoval will man the hot corner.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Rockies' DJ LeMahieu: Won't be ready Tuesday

LeMahieu (hamstring) is unlikely to return from the disabled list when first eligible Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Manager Bud Black says that LeMahieu will only need "a couple of more days," so it's likely that he could return later in the week. The second baseman was hitting .290/.367/.505 with five homers and three steals in 27 games before going down with a sore hamstring.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Activated from DL

Rendon (toe) was activated from the 10-day disabled list and will play third base and bat second against Philadelphia on Saturday.

Rendon played in two minor-league rehab contests over the past couple days for High-A Potomac and appears to be at 100 percent after going down with a toe injury April 13. Though Rendon will immediately step back into his role as the everyday third baseman, expect him to receive a few days off over the next week or so as manager Davey Martinez attempts to keep him fresh in the midst of the team's nine-day stretch without a scheduled off day. In a corresponding move, Adrian Sanchez was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Hits seventh home run

Longoria went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Friday's 9-4 win over the Braves.

Longoria brought home Buster Posey on a groundout during the Giants' six-run second inning and added a solo home run in the ninth. The 32-year-old has shown some pop this season with a .509 slugging percentage, but his abysmal 2.6 percent walk rate -- by far the worst of his career -- is limiting his ability to get on base.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Three-run homer keys Reds win

Suarez hit a three-run homer in the first inning of Friday's win over the Marlins, giving him 13 RBI in eight games since returning from the DL.

It's no coincidence that the Reds' lineup has been semi-competent upon the return of Suarez and Scott Schebler from the DL. Suarez is now hitting .321/.435/.643 after Friday's win.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Continues rehab assignment Friday

Rendon (toe) will play third base and bat third during Friday's game with High-A Potomac.

There was a chance that Rendon would only need one rehab game, but he will play with the High-A team for a second straight day after going 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI during Thursday's outing. The 27-year-old will make a return to the field after serving as the designated hitter Thursday. Looking ahead, there's a realistic chance that Rendon will be activated from the DL on Saturday.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Experiencing dizziness again

Senzel experienced some dizziness Thursday and will be shut down for a few days while the team monitors his status, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic Cincinnati reports.

This is concerning because Senzel's 2017 season was cut short by a bout of vertigo, and a reoccurrence of this type of ailment in less than a year's time suggests it's something he may always deal with. He logged just one at-bat before exiting the game in Norfolk. It's possible he rejoins the lineup this weekend, and it's also possible he misses extended time. Unfortunately this comes just as Senzel's bat was heating up for Triple-A Louisville. He hit .306 over his last 36 at-bats and is slashing .271/.351/.459 with three home runs and three steals (on four attempts) in 22 games this season.

  • Cody Asche 3B | NYM

Mets' Cody Asche: Signs with Mets

Asche agreed to a minor-league contract with the Mets on Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Asche will report to Triple-A Las Vegas and provide some extra depth to the Mets' organization as a utility man who can play all corners of the diamond. He appeared in 19 games for the White Sox in 2017, hitting a pedestrian .105/.177/.175 with four RBI and 21 strikeouts in 62 plate appearances. The 27-year-old is unlikely to make an impact at the major-league level.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: Drives in five on two homers

Arenado went 3-for-6 with two home runs and five RBI in Wednesday's win over the Cubs.

About the only blemishes for Arenado in the opening month were the suspension and the lack of home runs, as he had just four entering May after averaging 40 long balls a year over the last three seasons. He's made up for that since the calendar flipped to May, as he's now 4-for-10 with three homers and six RBI over the last two days. The 27-year-old now sports a terrific .320/.412/.619 slash line on the year.
