  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Bows out of starting nine

Newman isn't starting Tuesday's game against Milwaukee.

Newman registered three RBI in Monday's series opener, but he'll retreat to the bench Tuesday night. Erik Gonzalez is slated to bat eighth and start at shortstop with Newman out of the mix.

  • Yadiel Rivera 3B | MIL

Marlins' Yadiel Rivera: DFA'd by Marlins

Rivera was designated for assignment by Miami on Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Rivera will be subjected to waivers after hitting just .183 with three RBI over 34 games this season with the Marlins. Hector Noesi was promoted to the big leagues in a corresponding move.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Drives in three Monday

Newman went 1-for-4 with a three-run double against Milwaukee on Monday.

He's showing few signs of slowing down the way he did in 2018, when he struggled as a September callup. Newman has swiped four bases in his last six starts and continues to hit -- he's slashing .310/.354/.426. Interestingly, he's posted identical career batting averages (.287) to date in both the minor and major leagues.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Doubles barrage in doubleheader

Anderson went 4-for-7 with three doubles and three runs scored across both games of Monday's doubleheader against the Mets.

His barrage of two-baggers didn't help the Marlins win either end of the twin bill, but it did continue an impressive power display from Anderson. Over his last 10 games, the 26-year-old is slashing .324/.409/.730 with four homers and eight RBI in addition to Monday's doubles.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Drives in pair

Segura went 2-for-4 with a walk and a pair of RBI in Monday's win over Arizona.

Batting out of the fifth spot for the first time in over a month, rather than his usual No. 2 spot, Segura came through twice with runners in scoring position. He drove in Bryce Harper with an RBI single in the third inning and knocked in Cesar Hernandez with another single in the seventh. Segura has hit .375/.457/.500 over his last 10 games, with twice as many multi-hit performances (six) as strikeouts (three).

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Mets' J.D. Davis: Goes yard again

Davis went 2-for-2 with a double and a solo home run in the second game of Monday's doubleheader sweep of the Marlins.

After getting the start in left field in the matinee and going 0-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored, Davis was on the bench to begin the nightcap but entered the lineup as part of a double switch before going yard in the seventh -- the first of three solo shots by the Mets in the inning that turned the game around. The 26-year-old is slashing .371/.452/.597 with three homers and 10 RBI in 20 games since the All-Star break, and with Jeff McNeil likely to be needed more frequently at second base in the wake of a potentially season-ending injury to Robinson Cano (hamstring), Davis should be a fixture in an outfield corner as long as he's raking.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Collects two hits, swipes bag

Rendon went 2-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Monday's 4-0 win over the Giants.

It was a rare stolen base for Rendon; his second of the year matches his total from the 2018 season. Monday was also his second multi-hit outing over the last three days, bumping his slash line to .317/.402/.604 in 430 plate appearances.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Plates two in win

Senzel went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Monday against the Angels.

Senzel extended Cincinnati's lead to four in the first inning, plating a pair of runs on a single to right field. The 24-year-old has pieced together a .278/.335/.458 slash line with eight homers and 33 RBI over 75 games this season for the Reds.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Heads to bench Monday

Longoria is not in the lineup Monday against the Nationals.

Longoria returned from a three-week stay on the injured list Sunday, going 1-for-4 in what was his first game since July 14. He'll give way to Pablo Sandoval on Monday as the Giants look to ease him back into action.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Mets' J.D. Davis: Connects on 11th homer

Davis went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a walk Sunday in the Mets' 13-2 win over the Pirates.

Davis and Michael Conforto both left the yard in the top of the first inning to stake the Mets to an early lead they wouldn't relinquish. Victors of nine of their last 10 games, the Mets enter Monday's doubleheader versus the Marlins just one game under .500, with Davis' efforts during that stretch aiding the resurgence. Over the past 10 contests, Davis has gone 11-for-30 (.367 average) with two home runs, seven RBI, five runs and a 6:8 BB:K. He'll man left field and bat fifth in the first game of Monday's twin bill and should be locked into a full-time role for the duration of Dominic Smith's (foot) stay on the injured list.
