Pedro Alvarez 3B | MIA
Orioles' Pedro Alvarez: Contract selected from Norfolk
Alvarez's contract was selected from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.
He failed to impress at Triple-A this year, hitting .239/.294/.442 with 26 home runs in 138 games. Given his inability to provide quality defense anywhere on the diamond, and the Orioles' plethora of better versions of that type of player, Alvarez will primarily be used as a pinch hitter in the final month.

Drew Robinson 3B | TEX
Rangers' Drew Robinson: At-bats tailing off
Robinson went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Astros.
Robinson saw his at-bats pick up earlier in August when both Joey Gallo (concussion) and Carlos Gomez (back) were on the disabled list, but now that both players are healthy again, the rookie's window to regular starts has closed. It's still likely that Robinson, who can be deployed just about everywhere except pitcher and catcher, will pick up a start or two per week in September thanks to his versatility alone.

Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA
White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Staying off leg
Moncada (leg) has not yet begun baseball-related activities, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Manager Rick Renteria said Moncada "has been at home resting, trying to stay off his leg." The rookie second baseman will be re-evaluated Friday, and the White Sox will see if he's able to start baseball activities. Moncada suffered a bone bruise on his right shin and was placed on the 10-day disabled list Aug. 25.

Alex Bregman 3B | CHC
Astros' Alex Bregman: Closing in on 20-20
Bregman went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 5-1 win over Texas.
The Astros foundered in August, finishing up their worst month of the season with an 11-17 record, but it was Bregman's best month. He slashed .345/.395/.584/.979 over 28 games. The 23-year-old, who played his 23rd game at shortstop Thursday, is closing in on a 20-20 season, sitting at 16 homers and 15 steals entering September.

Pedro Alvarez 3B | MIA
Orioles' Pedro Alvarez: To join Orioles on Friday
Alvarez will be promoted by the Orioles on Friday, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Alvarez had a successful stint with the Orioles last season but has spent all of this year at Triple-A Norfolk due to Baltimore's roster construction at the major-league level. He'll add some left-handed pop off the bench for Baltimore and could see occasional starts at DH. Alvarez had 26 home runs in 542 minor-league at-bats this season.

Jake Burger 1B | TEX
White Sox's Jake Burger: Holding his own at Low-A
Burger, 21, is hitting .295/.355/.446 with four home runs and 27 RBI in 43 games at Low-A Kannapolis.
Burger has been even better of late as he has become acclimated to the pitching in the minors, hitting .317 with two home runs and nine RBI in his last 10 games. The No. 11 overall pick in this year's draft has a standout hit tool complete with power and the ability to make consistent contact.

Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE
Indians' Jose Ramirez: Victimizes Yankees again with four-hit effort
Ramirez went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and a stolen base in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Yankees.
Ramirez has been a major thorn in the Yankees' side, notching two home runs and a steal in the series opener before adding this performance in the next game. He provided exactly half of his team's eight hits and two runs scored in this narrow 2-1 victory and is now slashing an impressive .306/.360/.534 with 43 doubles and 15 steals.

Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL
Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson: Out of Wednesday's lineup
Donaldson is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Red Sox.
After seeing time at shortstop in four games earlier this month, Donaldson has retreated back to the hot corner for the last week. His bat has been the bigger story this month, however, as he has 12 home runs and 27 RBI in 95 August at-bats. Darwin Barney will start at third base and hit seventh.

Pedro Alvarez 3B | MIA
Orioles' Pedro Alvarez: Being considered for September promotion
Alvarez is being considered for a September callup, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Inked to a minor-league deal in March, Alvarez was all set to opt out in late May but the Orioles convinced him to stay put. It sounds like his patience may pay off, as Alvarez is in the mix to come up and provide additional thump off the bench over the season's final month. The 30-year-old has hit just .241 with a .296 on-base percentage with Triple-A Norfolk this year, but the trademark power is still there (26 homers in 584 plate appearances).

Jean Segura 3B | CLE
Mariners' Jean Segura: Sitting Wednesday
Segura is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
Ben Gamel will lead off as Taylor Motter mans short with Segura on the bench following 25 consecutive starts. Segura has been slumping of late, managing just four hits in his last 39 at-bats. He's also seen a precipitous drop in power this season -- Segura has just two homers over the last two months -- as many expected when he was traded from Arizona to Seattle. However, the 27-year-old's batting average and OBP for the season are still strong, so his spot atop the order should be secure.
