Mariners' Jean Segura: Unlikely to play until weekend

Segura (finger) is unlikely to play in the Mariners' upcoming series against the Athletics, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Segura sprained his finger over the weekend, and while the issue isn't thought to be overly serious, he'll apparently need a couple days off to allow it to heal. He's hoping to play in Seattle's upcoming series against the Angels, but that will depend on how his finger responds to treatment in the coming days. In the meantime, Taylor Motter should continue to start at shortstop for the Mariners.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Held out Monday

Segura (finger) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Athletics.

Segura will stick on the bench for a second straight contest as he continues to deal with a sprained finger. His status for the rest of Seattle's series against Oakland remains up in the air. In the meantime, Taylor Motter will continue to see starts at shortstop.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Dealing with shin injury

Moncada, who is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels, is dealing with a minor shin injury, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

The issue doesn't appear to be anything overly serious; MRI results came back clean and the hope is that Moncada will return to the starting lineup for Tuesday's contest. The 22-year-old has been hot at the plate since returning from the disabled list at the beginning of September, slashing .303/.369/.539 with five homers in 18 games. Yolmer Sanchez will start at the keystone in his stead Monday.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Out of lineup Monday

Moncada is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels.

Moncada has been locked in at the plate recently -- slashing .338/.394/.615 with five homers in his last 65 at-bats -- but he'll get the day off after starting 17 consecutive contests for the White Sox. Since returning from the disabled list near the beginning of September, Moncada has raised his batting average from .189 to .237. With the 22-year-old situated on the bench Monday, Yolmer Sanchez will slide over to cover the keystone, opening up a spot for Tyler Saladino to start at third base.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Homers in Sunday's loss

Bregman went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 7-5 loss to the Angels.

Bregman had gone 27 games without a home run before hitting his 17th blast of the season Sunday. He had been a slugging machine for one 30-game stretch after the All-Star break, looking like a shoo-in to reach 20 homers, but Bregman's fallen off during the month of September. Still, he rebounded nicely after a shaky first half to post respectable numbers. As the 23-year-old former shortstop adds to his frame, he should put together more sustained power outbursts.

  • Drew Robinson 3B | TEX

Rangers' Drew Robinson: Failing to produce in starting role

Robinson went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Athletics.

Robinson drew the start at third base for the sixth time in seven games, but as was the case in most of those prior contests, he failed to do much at the plate. Over that span, Robinson has contributed just two hits in 16 at-bats while striking out eight times. With the Rangers 5.5 games off the pace for the second wild-card spot in the American League with seven games left to play, the team has little incentive to rush Adrian Beltre back to regular duties at third base while he manages a hamstring injury, so Robinson's playing time looks to be fairly stable entering the final week.

  • Twins' Eduardo Escobar: Drives in four Sunday

Escobar went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI during Sunday's win over the Tigers.

Escobar slapped an RBI single in the fifth inning and followed that up with a three-run shot in the sixth. The Twins' third baseman put together a strong performance during the four-game series, going 6-for-18 with seven RBI in the sweep. He now holds a .252 average with 20 homers and 70 RBI on the campaign.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Out of Sunday lineup

Segura (finger) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Indians, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reports.

After being forced to leave Saturday's game with what seems to be a minor sprained finger, Segura will get the day to recover. Taylor Motter will start at shortstop while Ben Gamel moves to the leadoff spot. Until further notice, consider Segura day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener against Oakland.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Should return Tuesday

Candelario (knee) is expected to return for Tuesday's series opener against the Royals, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Candelario left Saturday's game with a knee contusion and is out of the lineup Sunday as he nurses the injury. The Tigers don't play Monday, so Candelario will have an extra day to rest before returning to action. Nick Castellanos is hitting third and starting at the hot corner in place of Candelario on Sunday.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Sitting out Sunday

Candelario (knee) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Candelario incurred a knee contusion Saturday and is being withheld from the lineup Sunday so that he can recover. The Tigers haven't elaborated on the severity of the injury, so consider him day-to-day. Nick Castellanos will fill in at third base with Candelario out Sunday.
