  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Astros' J.D. Davis: Strong performances at Triple-A

Davis is dominating at the Triple-A level, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic Houston reports.

Since being demoted to Triple-A Fresno, Davis is hitting .425/.474/.655 in 97 plate appearances. He got into nine games for the Astros earlier this season while Yulieski Gurriel was injured, but it will probably take another injury to get him back onto a stacked major-league roster.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Hits second homer Sunday

Bregman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 3-1 loss to Arizona.

Bregman's homer, his second of the season, gives him hits in five straight games, but like his other hot streaks this season, it's been quiet (5-for-18, one RBI, two runs). He entered Sunday's game ranked 25th among third basemen in ISO (.095).

  • Pedro Alvarez 3B | MIA

Orioles' Pedro Alvarez: Goes deep vs. A's

Alvarez went 1-for-3 with a home run, one RBI and a run scored Sunday in the loss to Oakland.

Alvarez was one of the lone bright spots for the Orioles, as he accounted for their lone run scored Sunday. He slugged his seventh home run of the season in the second inning. Alvarez is slashing a disappointing .205/.311/.500 through 30 games, and he'll look to turn around his performance at the plate in the near future as the Orioles begin a three-game series with the Royals on Tuesday.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Leaves Sunday's matchup early

Segura exited Sunday's game against the Angels in the eighth inning due to a headache, TJ Cotterill of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Segura is expected to be OK. It's unclear if he was suffering from dehydration, but he'll have a day to recover as the Mariners have Monday off before beginning a three-game series with the Blue Jays.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Royals' Mike Moustakas: Drives in three

Moustakas went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and three RBI on Sunday against the Tigers.

Moustakas played a part in all four of the Royals' runs Sunday, his first big performance in several games. After getting off to a quick start to the season, Moustakas hasn't homered since April 27 and has only two extra-base hits in that span. He continues to hit for a high average and is showing signs of getting his powerful bat back in form.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Raking over last 10 games

Segura, who went 3-for-6 with a run in an extra-innings win over the Angels on Saturday, is 14-for-42 with two doubles and 10 RBI over his last 10 games.

Segura is slashing .299/.324/.433 across 144 plate appearances overall, while already driving in 24 runs. The shortstop is currently sporting his best strikeout rate (13.9 percent) since 2014, and he's once again punishing left-handed pitching in particular (.333 average, .444 slugging over 36 at-bats). The 1-2 punch of Dee Gordon and Segura at the top of the order has proven to be highly potent for the Mariners, and Gordon's career-high .373 OBP has certainly been a boon for Segura's RBI opportunities.

  • Danny Valencia 3B | BAL

Orioles' Danny Valencia: Losing at-bats to Alvarez

Valencia is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.

After Tim Beckham was shut down April 24 before groin surgery, Valencia received the first chance to serve as the Orioles' everyday third baseman, starting at the position in the first four games Beckham was out of the lineup. It appears Valencia has since fallen into a platoon at the hot corner with Pedro Alvarez, whose left-handedness has earned him the larger share of the starts. Though he'll be on the bench again Sunday, Valencia may not have to wait long before earning more consistent work, as Pedro Alvarez has opened May with a 1-for-16 showing at the plate.

  • Pedro Alvarez 3B | MIA

Orioles' Pedro Alvarez: Seeing large side of third-base platoon

Alvarez will start at third base and bat sixth Sunday against the Athletics, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Despite his limitations as a defender, Alvarez has earned steady at-bats at third base on the larger side of a platoon with Danny Valencia. Alvarez may need to start hitting again in order to hold off Valencia for playing time, however, as he's begun to slump after closing out April with four home runs over a three-game stretch. He's managed just one hit in 16 May at-bats while striking out six times.

  • Drew Robinson 3B | TEX

Rangers' Drew Robinson: Benched against lefty Sunday

Robinson is out of the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox.

Robinson will take a seat for the third time in the four-game series with the Red Sox bringing another lefty to the hill in Chris Sale. With Robinson on the bench, platoon mate Renato Nunez will pick up another start at third base.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Dealing with jammed thumb

Candelario, who is out of the lineup Sunday against the Royals, is nursing a jammed left thumb, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

It had been assumed that Candelario was on the bench Sunday as part of a routine maintenance day, but an injury is instead at the root of the third baseman's absence. The thumb injury is believed to be minor, so Candelario could still be available Sunday in a pinch-hitting role. His next opportunity to rejoin the lineup will come in Monday's series opener against the Rangers.
