  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Sits again Friday

Candelario (back) remains on the bench Friday against the Royals, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Candelario exited Tuesday's game with back spasms and has yet to appear in a game since. Ronny Rodriguez gets the start at third base Friday.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Replaces Nunez at third

Devers went 2-for-5 with two runs scored in Thursday's 11-6 win over the Yankees.

Devers didn't play in the first two games of the series in New York but was in the lineup at third base for Thursday's finale with Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) unavailable. Nunez's injury is expected to sideline him until early next week, so Devers is in line for consistent at-bats at least through the weekend. He's 6-for-28 since coming off the disabled list earlier this month but has hits in four of the last five games, so there's some evidence the bat is coming around. Manager Alex Cora could also use Brock Holt at third while Nunez rehabs.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Reaches base four times

Moncada went 3-for-5 with a double, a walk, two RBI and a run scored in Thursday's victory over Cleveland.

Moncada scored a run in the first inning before knocking a two-run double in the next frame. With Thursday's big night at the plate, the 23-year-old is up to 60 RBI and 51 extra-base hits in his first full MLB season.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Drives in two, scores twice

Chapman went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI on Thursday against the Angels.

Chapman got the Athletics' offensive barrage started Thursday, doubling in both of his runs in the second inning against Matt Shoemaker. He now has an impressive 41 doubles this season, the foundation for his .519 slugging percentage -- a mark good enough for 10th in the American League. It's been an impressive sophomore campaign for Chapman, and he appears on track to end it positively, now racking up four multi-hit games in his last eight starts.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Absent from Thursday's lineup

Candelario (back) is out of the lineup against Kansas City on Thursday, Chris McCosky of the Detroit News reports.

Candelario will remain sidelined for a second straight day as he continues to nurse a back issue that popped up during Tuesday's game. Ronny Rodriguez will draw another start at the hot corner in his place.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Indians' Josh Donaldson: Takes seat Thursday

Donaldson is not in the lineup Thursday against the White Sox, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Donaldson will take a seat for Thursday's series finale after starting the last three games, going 1-for-9 with three walks and a run scored over that stretch. Yandy Diaz will cover third base and hit sixth in his place.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

White Sox's Nick Madrigal: Will play shortstop during offseason

Madrigal will get playing time at shortstop during the Instructional League, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Madrigal, the White Sox's first-round pick in 2018, has played second base since being drafted, but will diversify this offseason. "It remains to be seen where he will get most of his reps in the majors, but he has the ability to play both,'' director of player development Chris Getz said. Madrigal finished up 2018 at High-A Winston-Salem, where he slashed .306/355/.347 with six steals and five strikeouts over 107 plate appearances. That's about what we expect from the middle infielder considered to be one of the better hitting prospects in the draft: a low-wattage hitter that makes contact with speed on the bases.

  • Twins' Willians Astudillo: Drives in three

Astudillo went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Tigers.

Astudillo has now collected multiple hits in three of his last four starts and is slashing .351/.368/.541 with two homers, 10 RBI and a 0:1 K:BB across 11 games in September. With Mitch Garver (concussion) expected to miss the rest of the season, Astudillo figures to see the majority of opportunities behind the dish for the Twins down the stretch.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Sits again Wednesday

Devers is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Yankees, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Devers sits despite the Red Sox facing the right-handed Luis Severino. Eduardo Nunez will start at third base in his place.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Held out Wednesday

Candelario (back) is not in the lineup against Minnesota on Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive Media Group reports.

Candelario will head to the bench for Wednesday's matinee after leaving Tuesday's contest in the eighth inning due to back spasms. In his absence, Ronny Rodriguez will handle the hot corner and bat fifth. Consider Candelario day-to-day prior to Thursday's game.
