  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

White Sox's Nick Madrigal: Not yet ready to return

Manager Rick Renteria said Tuesday that Madrigal (shoulder) will require "at least a few more days" at the team's alternate training site before returning, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Madrigal could still make it back before the end of August, although it appears as though he won't return for the team's current series against the Pirates. If all goes well in Schaumburg, it's possible that the 23-year-old could return for the White Sox's upcoming series against the Royals, which is scheduled to begin Friday.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Astros' Abraham Toro: Sitting for Game 1

Toro is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Angels.

Toro is 0-for-12 with three strikeouts and zero walks over his last four games. Jack Mayfield will start at third base and hit ninth.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Astros' Abraham Toro: Receives day off Monday

Toro isn't in the lineup Monday against the Angels.

Toro had started the past eight games for the Astros, but he's gone hitless with three strikeouts over his last 12 at-bats. He'll get a breather Monday with Jack Mayfield starting at third base.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Tigers' Isaac Paredes: Takes seat Monday

Paredes isn't in the lineup Monday against the Cubs.

Paredes has gotten the bulk of playing time at third base since joining the active roster and went 3-for-4 with a double and a strikeout Sunday. However, he'll get a breather Monday with Willi Castro starting at the hot corner.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Out at last three weeks

Bregman (hamstring) will miss at least three weeks, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Houston general manager James Click confirmed that news Sunday. "We're hoping it's a three-week thing," Click told the Astros' radio broadcast. "Initially, that's kind of the timetable we're looking at. But obviously with all of these things, we have to be patient. We have to wait for things to calm down there and see how he responds to treatment." Bregman suffered the injury during Wednesday's game against the Rockies. Since then, he's been replaced by Abraham Toro at third base and Carlos Correa at third in the batting order.

  • Yadiel Rivera 3B | MIL

Rangers' Yadiel Rivera: Swipes bag Sunday

Rivera went 0-for-3 with a stolen base in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Mariners.

Rivera reached on an error in the sixth inning and stole second, but the Rangers couldn't bring him home. Sunday marked Rivera's first game of 2020 -- he hit .183/.258/.217 with two steals, three RBI and eight runs scored in 34 outings with the Marlins last year. Rivera is likely to see just a part-time role while Elvis Andrus (back) is out.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

    Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Progressing well

LeMahieu (thumb) has resumed baseball activity and is showing significant improvement, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

LeMahieu was placed on the 10-day injured list Aug. 16 and given an initial return timeline of two to three weeks. It sounds as though the veteran could be back at the early end of that timeframe given his rapid improvement. Thairo Estrada is likely to receive the majority of starts at second base in LeMahieu's stead.

  • Twins' Ildemaro Vargas: Filling in for resting Arraez

Vargas will start at second base and will bat seventh Sunday against the Royals.

Vargas will pick up his fourth start in five games, but three of those assignments came when Luis Arraez was sidelined with a knee injury. Arraez returned to the lineup Saturday and appears to just be getting a maintenance day in Sunday's series finale, so Vargas should return to a full-time bench role during the upcoming week. Vargas looks to have inched ahead of Ehire Adrianza as the Twins' top infield reserve after going 5-for-11 with a triple, double, two RBI and two runs over the last three contests.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Leaves yard in loss

Chapman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a loss to the Angels on Saturday.

Chapman's fourth-inning solo blast was the third baseman's third over the last two games and eighth of August overall. The 25-year-old now has a five-game on-base streak, and he's managed to raise his both his batting average (.188 to .250) and slugging percentage (.375 to .598) significantly since Aug. 2.

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Returning to lineup

Moncada (leg) is back in the starting lineup against the Cubs on Saturday after receiving Friday off due to leg soreness.

Moncada just needed one day off to relieve some minor aches and pains in his leg. He is back in the starting lineup for the second game of the Crosstown Classic after reaching base three times in his most recent start against the Tigers on Thursday.
