Alex Bregman 3B | BOS
Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Officially placed on IL
The Red Sox placed Bregman on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to a right quadriceps strain.
Bregman injured his right quad while rounding first base in the fifth inning of Friday's 19-5 win over Baltimore. Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Bregman is dealing with a "significant" strain similar to the one he sustained in 2021 with the Astros, which caused the veteran third baseman to miss over 50 games, per Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. A similar timeline would put Bregman on pace to return in late July after the All-Star break, though the Red Sox should have a more clearer target date available for him once he's able to resume baseball activities. Boston called up infield prospect Marcelo Mayer from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move, and the youngster could get a look in an everyday role at third base while Bregman is on the shelf.

Red Sox's Alex Bregman: IL stint expected
The Red Sox are expected to place Bregman (quad) on the 10-day injured list Saturday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Bregman was removed from Friday's game with right quad tightness while running to first base. That the Red Sox are planning to promote Marcelo Mayer in time for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Baltimore indicates Bregman, who was held out of the first game, appears destined for a stint on the injured list. Bregman's loss will be a blow to Boston, as he was hitting .299 with a .938 OPS through 51 games, but it gives the organization a chance to get a look at its top infield prospect.
