  • Jhonkensy Noel OF | BAL

Indians' Jhonkensy Noel: Begins rehab assignment

Noel (ankle) has gone 1-for-10 with a double and a walk in four games for Cleveland's rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate since beginning a rehab assignment July 5.

The 20-year-old third baseman has been on the 7-day injured list at Low-A Lynchburg for nearly a month with a sprained ankle. Now that he's gotten in a few rehab games under his belt in the ACL, Noel should soon rejoin Lynchburg.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: Going through COVID-19 protocols

Urshela is going through the league's COVID-19 protocols Thursday, Buster Olney of ESPN reports.

The Yankees already had three players test positive for the virus and land on the COVID injured list earlier in the day, and Urshela, Aaron Judge and Kyle Higashioka could follow to the shelf if positive tests are confirmed. Thursday's matchup with the Red Sox has already been postponed due to the outbreak. Urshela will be away from the team for at least 10 days if he returns a positive result.

  • Oswald Peraza 3B | LAA

Yankees' Oswald Peraza: Looking good in Double-A

Peraza has gone 16-for-39 (.410) with two homers, three steals, four RBI and nine runs over his last 10 games for Double-A Somerset.

After High-A proved no challenge for the young Venezuelan, who turned 21 last month, the Yankees moved him right on up to Double-A. Though he's had a couple rough patches, his total line with Somerset is a solid .286/.348/.452 with four homers and six steals in 32 games; in total, he's smashed nine homers and stolen 22 bags on 24 attempts in the minors this year. As you might expect from a younger player who was promoted aggressively, his numbers aren't as good as they were at the lower level, but Peraza still looks like he's got a legitimate big-league future ahead of him. Speed and defense will be his calling cards, but there's certainly some pop to be found here too.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

    Indians' Jose Ramirez: Rests Sunday

Ramirez is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

There's been no indication that it's anything but a regular day off for Ramirez, who will be heading to Denver for the All-Star Game onTuesday. The 28-year-old homered in a 2-for-4, three-run performance Saturday, snapping out of a four-game hitless streak and improving his average to .208 in seven July contests. Ernie Clement is playing third base and batting ninth in Sunday's series finale.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Astros' Abraham Toro: Records second steal

Toro went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Saturday's 1-0 loss to the Yankees.

The third baseman was one of three Astros to get a hit off Yankees starter Gerrit Cole. Toro also notched his second steal of the year, but he was left on base. His hit snapped an 0-for-10 skid at the plate. The 24-year-old is slashing just .225/.292/.338 with three home runs, 15 RBI and 12 runs scored across 89 plate appearances. He'll likely continue to see most of the starts as a fill-in for Alex Bregman (quadriceps) at the hot corner.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Nearing rehab assignment

Bregman (quadriceps) said he expects to begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land in mid-July, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Bregman is aiming to play for the Skeeters during their trip to Albuquerque, which runs from July 15-20. Thus, an activation near the end of the month remains realistic for Bregman, who's been sidelined by a left quadriceps strain since June 17.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Still managing hand soreness

Moncada still has some soreness in his right hand and is the designated hitter Saturday against Baltimore, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The 26-year-old went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs in Friday's contest. The All-Star break figures to be beneficial for Moncada as his hand continues to recover. Gavin Sheets will start at third base Saturday.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Extends on-base streak Friday

Chapman went 2-for-4 with a double and a run in a loss to the Rangers on Friday.

The hot-hitting third baseman extended his on-base streak to an impressive 24 games with Friday's multi-hit effort, his second such tally in the last five games. Chapman is hitting .364 (8-for-22) over that span, although Friday's two-bagger was his first extra-base hit in the sample.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Twins' Josh Donaldson: Rests Saturday afternoon

Donaldson is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers.

There's been no indication that it's anything but a regular day off for Donaldson, who has gone 0-for-6 with a pair of walks in two games since returning from right hamstring soreness. Luis Arraez will start at third base and bat leadoff Saturday.

  • Taylor Walls SS | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Bangs out two doubles Friday

Walls went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI in Friday's 7-1 win over the Blue Jays.

The rookie shortstop ripped two-baggers against Alek Manoah in the fourth inning and Jacob Barnes in the seventh, with the latter driving in the final runs of the night for the Rays. Walls has started four of the last five games despite the presence of Wander Franco, going 5-for-14 with three doubles and five RBI, and his glove could ensure him steady playing time in the second half even if he never emerges as a consistent threat at the plate.
