Mariners' Eugenio Suarez: Hopes to begin taking swings soon

Suarez (finger) saw a hand specialist in Arizona on Monday and hopes to begin taking swings off a tee and in the batting cage at some point this week, the Associated Press reports.

Suarez suffered a small fracture in the tip of his right index finger Friday against the Angels and hit the injured list a day later. The veteran slugger's potential progress in coming days should go a long way toward determining how realistic a return will be when he's first eligible Tuesday, at least as a designated hitter.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Provides needed cushion

Devers went 1-for-4 with a walk and a two-run home run in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Reds.

Devers launched his 27th home run in the top of the ninth, giving Boston a 5-1 cushion, but it turned out to be needed when the Reds plated two off Matt Strahm. Devers has reached base safely in nine straight games, going 12-for-37 (.324) with two home runs, two doubles, 11 RBI, one steal and three runs scored during that stretch.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Angels' Matt Duffy: Homers in Tuesday's win

Duffy went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Rangers.

Duffy got the Angels on the board when he took a Cole Ragans offering down the left-field line in the second inning. Duffy was part of a rally in the sixth after getting aboard with a single, and he scored the last run of the game. The 31-year-old has posted consecutive multi-hit efforts for the first time since late May. He's up to a .260/.311/.328 slash line with two homers, 14 RBI, 11 runs scored and seven doubles through 206 plate appearances. Duffy appears to have near-everyday playing time at third base.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Effective out of leadoff spot

Henderson went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Detroit.

Henderson made the most of his first career start batting leadoff in the big leagues. He recorded his fifth multi-hit effort in his last seven games, including a two-run home run. The homer, Henderson's third on the campaign, was a 409-foot blast to right field in the seventh inning which pulled the game to within one. It's uncertain if he will stick in the leadoff spot, but Henderson looks like he should be a quality source of counting stats down the stretch regardless of where he bats in the order.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Perfect day at plate

Candelario went 4-for-4 with two doubles and one run scored in Tuesday's victory over Baltimore.

Candelario was perfect at the dish Tuesday as he recorded a hit in all four at-bats, two of which went for extra bases. The multi-hit effort was his fifth in his last 15 games, but those games have come sporadically as he has maintained a part-time role since the beginning of September. He's slashing .209/.266/.359 on the season.

  • Joe Perez 3B | PIT

Astros' Joe Perez: Promoted to Triple-A

Perez was promoted to Triple-A Sugar Land by the Astros on Tuesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

With the Double-A regular season coming to an end, Perez will continue playing ball in Triple-A and finish his season there. The 22-year-old infield prospect recorded a .265/.335/.397 slash line this season with Double-A Corpus Christi.

  • Ryan Kreidler SS | MIN

Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Catches breather Tuesday

Kreidler is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles.

Kreidler snapped out of a slump by reaching base three times and driving in three runs Monday, but that did not prevent him from being held out one day later.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Expected to rest Wednesday

Manager Dusty Baker is planning to give Bregman a day off Wednesday, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Bregman will start one day after the Astros clinched the AL West, but it appears he will get a mid-week breather in order to get some rest prior to the postseason.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Could be activated this week

LeMahieu (toe) could be activated during this week's homestand, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

He took on-field batting practice Tuesday for the first time since landing on the injured list earlier this month. It doesn't sound like LeMahieu will be activated until this weekend, at the earliest.

  • Tyler Freeman RF | COL

Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Takes seat Tuesday

Freeman isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's matchup against the White Sox, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Freeman will get a day off after his 1-for-5 effort Monday against the Twins. Josh Naylor slots in as the designated hitter. Owen Miller starts at first base, batting seventh.
