Twins' Royce Lewis: Uncertain for wild-card round

Lewis (hamstring) acknowledged that he's uncertain if he'll be available to play Tuesday in Game 1 of the Twins' wild-card round series with the Blue Jays, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Lewis made his final appearance of the regular season Sept. 19 before landing on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. He was able to take part in simulated games last week, but he said Monday that he still isn't yet running at 100 percent. Even though speed is a big component of Lewis' game, the 24-year-old has been one of the Twins' more productive batters when healthy, so he could still be activated for the wild-card round to serve as a designated hitter. The Twins will likely re-evaluate Lewis early Tuesday before deciding on his status for the upcoming three-game series.

  • Rays' Junior Caminero: Hits first major-league home run

Caminero went 2-for-6 with a solo homer, two RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 12-8 win over the Blue Jays.

Caminero got an RBI single in the second and then launched an opposite field home run off Tim Mayza in the fifth for his first big-league blast. The 20-year-old phenom slashed .235/.278/.353 with seven RBI, four runs and a 2:8 BB:K in 36 plate appearances after he was called up. He should be in the mix to make the postseason roster for the Rays.

  • Tyler Freeman 3B | COL

Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Goes deep in loss

Freeman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Tigers.

Freeman homered twice over his last four games of the season, giving him four long balls on the year. The infielder also posted a .242/.295/.366 slash line over 168 plate appearances. He added 18 RBI, 20 runs scored and five stolen bases, and he should have a chance to compete for a larger role in spring training next year.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Goes yard in season finale

Bregman went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a triple and two runs scored in Sunday's win over Arizona.

Bregman got the scoring started with his home run during Houston's four-run first frame. He snapped a nine-game homerless drought -- he went deep just three times since the start of September. The veteran third baseman finishes the 2023 regular season with a .262/.363/.441 slash line, 25 home runs, 57 extra-base hits and 98 RBI across 161 games.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Gets Sunday off

Chapman is not in Sunday's lineup against the Rays.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Sitting Sunday

Moncada is not in Sunday's lineup against the Padres.

He will open the final game of the season on the bench, with Lenyn Sosa getting the nod at the hot corner. Moncada played in only 92 games this year due mostly to a major back injury, but he finished extremely strong, slashing .316/.358/.553 with eight home runs over his final 42 games.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Mariners' Eugenio Suarez: Belts 22nd homer in loss

Suarez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Rangers on Saturday.

Suarez's eighth-inning solo blast was bittersweet in that it served as the only run of the night for the Mariners in a loss that eliminated Seattle from postseason contention. The homer also snapped a power drought for Suarez, who'd last left the yard Sept. 15. With 96 runs driven in on the season, Suarez enters Sunday's regular-season finale with an outside chance of reaching the 100-RBI mark for the third time in his career and first time since 2019.

  • Zack Gelof 2B | ATH

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Homers in three-hit game

Gelof went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, three total RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Angels.

Gelof popped a solo shot in the first inning and then contributed RBI singles in the eighth and ninth to help the Athletics pull off a comeback win. The second baseman had gone just 5-for-29 over his previous eight games before Saturday's three-hit effort. He's up to 14 homers, 32 RBI, 40 runs scored, 14 stolen bases and a .272/.342/.513 slash line over 68 contests this season.

  • Ramon Urias 3B | STL

Orioles' Ramon Urias: Returns from illness

Urias (illness) is starting at third base and batting eighth Saturday against the Red Sox.

Urias was a late scratch from Friday's lineup after coming down with an illness, but he has seemingly recovered and will get the nod at the hot corner Saturday. The 29-year-old infielder has collected four hits over his last three games while coming across to score once.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Scores two runs in blowout win

Garcia went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs and an RBI in Friday's 12-5 win over the Yankees.

Garcia recorded both of his base hits in the first inning, with the Royals plating nine runs in the opening frame to cruise to an easy win. The 23-year-old has produced three multi-hit efforts in his last seven games and is slashing .266/.314/.340 with one home run and nine stolen bases overall in the second half.
