Athletics' Darell Hernaiz: Not starting Saturday

Hernaiz isn't in the Athletics' lineup for Saturday's game against Milwaukee.

  • Shay Whitcomb SS | HOU

Astros' Shay Whitcomb: Getting Saturday off

Whitcomb isn't in Housotn's lineup Saturday against Baltimore, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Whitcomb has gone 6-for-21 with two RBI through the first seven games of his MLB career, and he'll get a chance to rest Saturday while Alex Bregman starts at the hot corner.

Astros' Shay Whitcomb: Getting on base

Whitcomb went 1-for-2 with two walks Friday against the Orioles.

Whitcomb was originally called up to replace Alex Bregman in the lineup, but his defensive versatility has allowed him to see consistent playing time -- most recently filling in for Yordan Alvarez (neck) on Friday. Whitcomb has now started seven straight games and has gotten on base at a .423 clip while striking out at just a 19.2 percent clip across his first 26 plate appearances in the majors.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Clears concussion protocol

Manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that LeMahieu's condition has improved and he's cleared concussion protocol, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

LeMahieu was scratched from the Yankees' lineup Friday after taking a ball off his face during pregame warmups, though he escaped with just bruising. He'll remain out of the lineup for Saturday's contest but should be able to return to action within the next few days.

  • Ramon Urias 3B | STL

Orioles' Ramon Urias: Logs steal in win

Urias went 1-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 7-5 win over the Astros.

Urias got aboard on a fielder's choice in the second inning and swiped second base. It was his first steal of the season, coming on just his second attempt. The third baseman added an RBI triple in the eighth inning to provide an insurance run. Urias is batting .231 (12-for-52) with five extra-base hits and 10 RBI over 20 contests in August. For the year, he's at a .244/.316/.404 slash line with eight home runs, 28 RBI and 29 runs scored through 86 contests. Urias has handled a starting role at the hot corner recently, but the Orioles' addition of Emmanuel Rivera via waivers could eat into his playing time.

  • Rays' Junior Caminero: Hits first homer of season

Caminero went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-3 loss to the Dodgers.

Caminero was out of the lineup Thursday, and the rest appeared to work well for him. He went yard in the first inning for his first homer over 10 games in the majors this year, and he scored again after getting aboard on a double in the third. This was Caminero's third multi-hit effort since his Aug. 13 recall, and he's batting .265 with two extra-base hits, two RBI and two stolen bases over 39 plate appearances.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

    Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Precautionarily scratched

LeMahieu was hit in the face by a ball during warmups and was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Rockies, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

LeMahieu appeared to be fine after the incident, but the Yankees will play it safe and give him the night off. The 35-year-old was slated to play first base and bat ninth, but both of those slots will be filled by Ben Rice instead. LeMahieu should be considered day-to-day.

  • Shay Whitcomb SS | HOU

Astros' Shay Whitcomb: In lineup after Alvarez scratch

Whitcomb will bat sixth and play third base Friday against Baltimore, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Whitcomb was initially slated for a day off after making six consecutive starts. However, with Yordan Alvarez being a late scratch due to neck discomfort, Whitcomb is now part of the starting nine. Alex Bregman will shift back to DH.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Close to rehab assignment

Moncada (thigh) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte next week, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

Moncada has been on the IL since early April due to an adductor strain. He started a rehab assignment in early July, and in his five outings before being shut back down July 22 due to general soreness, he went 8-for-15 with four runs scored and two RBI. How Moncada responds to his second rehab stint will indicate whether the White Sox will bring the 29-year-old third baseman back into the fold or hold him out until the 2025 season.

  • Brooks Lee SS | MIN

Twins' Brooks Lee: Assignment starting Saturday

Lee (biceps/shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A St. Paul, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Lee has been dealing with right biceps tendinitis and some soreness in his right shoulder throughout August and has been on the injured list since Aug. 9. He received a cortisone shot for the biceps tendinitis shortly after going on the shelf and is now ready to begin a rehab assignment. The 23-year-old has slashed .253/.309/.333 with two home runs and three stolen bases across 110 plate appearances with the Twins.
