  • Manny Machado's rehab game gets rained out

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado's rehab took a pause on Monday, but not because of a setback. Monday's Class A Frederick game at Harry Grove Stadium was rained out, MASN Sports reports.

Machado, who is working his way back from offseason knee surgery, was expected to serve as a designated hitter Monday before the team held him out. The Orioles were expected to make a decision on his activation from the disabled list after the game.

Machado could be back from the disabled list by the middle of this week.

Although Sunday's game between the Twins and Tigers was postponed, Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe was on track to play after leaving Saturday's game with a triceps injury. He is expected to be in the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers.

"Trevor Plouffe came in feeling good," manager Ron Gardenhire said Sunday, per MLB.com. "He had a miracle patch the trainers put on him. So that's a good thing. I didn't think he'd be able to go (Sunday). I was happy … that [he was]. He came in feeling great. So we can move forward from there and not have to worry about Tuesday."

Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe hopes to play Sunday after being removed from Saturday's game with a triceps injury, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

After going 1 for 2 with two RBI Saturday, Plouffe has hit .310/.419/.483 with one home run and 17 RBI in 87 at-bats.

  • Manny Machado could return by middle of next week

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado could return Tuesday or Wednesday during the team's two-game series against the Pirates, MLB.com reports.

Asked Satuday if Machado could play during the team's series against the Pirates, manager Buck Showalter said, "I wouldn’t say anything is off the table right now. We will have a pretty good idea after tomorrow."

Machado is currently on assignment with Class A Frederick, and he's expected to play nine innings with the team Sunday before potentially moving up to Triple-A Norfolk. If he doesn't make it back by Wednesday, it appears he'll likely return for the team's weekend series in Minnesota, barring a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

  • Manny Machado racks up seven bases in rehab debut

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado was not in the field for his rehab debut at Class A Frederick Friday, but he showed that he isn't at all rusty at the plate.

With wet field conditions thanks to a rain delay, Machado was limited to designated hitting duties in his first game action since offseason knee surgery. He went 3 for 4 at the plate with two runs, a double and a triple in the game.

Machado will likely remain at Frederick through the weekend, and will likely play in the field at some point, if weather permits, before moving up a level.
