  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Ankle injury not considered serious

Manager Oliver Marmol said Saturday that Edman (wrist) was able to field grounders again Friday without any problems with his sprained ankle, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Marmol added that Edman remains on track to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield or Triple-A Memphis sometime next week, barring any setbacks. The 29-year-old infielder has spent all season on the injured list, so an extended stint in the minors will likely be necessary, though it's still possible he'll be able to rejoin the big-league club before the All-Star break.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

    Mets' Jeff McNeil: Idle Saturday

McNeil isn't in the Mets' lineup for Saturday's game against Houston.

McNeil will get a day off Saturday after going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer during Friday's win. Jose Iglesias will start at second base instead and bat eighth.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Back in lineup Saturday

Lowe (toe) is serving as the designated hitter and batting second for Saturday's game against the Nationals, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

After missing five games with a fractured right pinky toe, Lowe returned to action Friday as a pinch hitter for Amed Rosario in the bottom of the seventh inning. Lowe will wear a guard over his toe Saturday in his first start since June 22, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports. For the month of June, Lowe is slashing .254/.324/.476 with four home runs and 14 RBI over 63 at-bats.

  • Blue Jays' Spencer Horwitz: Idle vs. southpaw Saturday

Horwitz is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Horwitz will begin Saturday's game in the dugout with the Yankees sending southpaw Nestor Cortes to the mound. Horwitz went 1-for-4 in Friday's 16-5 loss to the Yankees, and for the season he's slashing .340/.484/.500 with two home runs and six RBI over 64 plate appearances. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will start at second base Saturday and bat second.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Homers in return to lineup

Torres went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI in Friday's 16-5 rout of Toronto.

Torres was held out of action Wednesday and Thursday following a prolonged slump, and the time off appeared to serve him well. The second baseman contributed to the team's offensive explosion Friday with a two-run blast in the sixth inning and a sacrifice fly in the ninth. Torres finished with his first multi-hit game in over a month -- he hadn't accomplished that feat since going 2-for-4 against San Diego on May 26.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Excellent production continues

Altuve went 2-for-5 with a double and a solo home run Friday against the Mets.

Altuve recorded his fourth consecutive multi-hit game and has maintained a .337 average across 23 games in June. His power has picked up of late, as he's now popped three homers in his last 10 starts while also swiping four bags in that span.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Ready to return to lineup

Lowe (toe) went 0-for-1 with a strikeout Friday against the Nationals.

Lowe has been out of the lineup for five straight games with a fractured pinky toe, and Friday's appearance as a pinch hitter was his first since suffering the injury. Manager Kevin Cash said that Lowe was physically capable of being a starter, but Lowe remained on the bench due to a matchup against lefty Mitchell Parker, per MLB.com. Lowe wore a protective guard over his right cleat.

  • Zack Gelof 2B | ATH

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Gets aboard four times in win

Gelof went 3-for-4 with a triple, a walk, one RBI, one stolen base and two runs scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Gelof had gone 2-for-17 over his previous five contests before his big game Friday. The second baseman's triple was his second of the campaign and his first extra-base hit since June 20. He's at a .205/.259/.362 slash line with eight home runs, 22 RBI, 25 runs scored and nine steals across 62 games this year.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Ends power drought Friday

McNeil went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 7-2 win over the Astros.

The second baseman took Ronel Blanco deep in the sixth inning, the third of three Mets homers on the night. It was McNeil's first long ball since May 22, snapping a 23-game power outage, and the performance was his first three-hit game since May 7. He'll need more than one good game to earn the trust of fantasy GMs again, however -- on the season, McNeil is slashing a feeble .212/.283/.312 with four home runs, four steals, 19 RBI and 31 runs in 72 contests.

  • Blue Jays' Isiah Kiner-Falefa: Hit streak at 12 games

Kiner-Falefa went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 16-5 loss to the Yankees.

The infielder took Michael Tonkin deep in the sixth inning, giving Kiner-Falefa his seventh long ball of the season, one off his career high. He's also hit safely in 12 straight games, batting a blistering .395 (17-for-43) over that stretch with three homers, six RBI and 10 runs.
