Jorbit Vivas 2B | NYY
Yankees' Jorbit Vivas: Making MLB debut
Vivas is starting at second base and batting ninth Friday against the Rays, and he's expected to receive regular playing time after Jazz Chisholm (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.
Vivas was up with the Yankees last summer and earlier this season, but he didn't see the field during his brief stints with the big club. The 24-year-old is making his MLB debut Friday, and it appears he'll get a chance to showcase himself while Chisholm is sidelined for the next 4-to-6 weeks. Vivas has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with two homers, six steals and a .319/.426/.436 slash line in 26 contests.

Jazz Chisholm CF | NYY
Yankees' Jazz Chisholm: Facing extended absence
Manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Chisholm was diagnosed with a high-grade strain of his right oblique and is expected to be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
The 27-year-old Chisholm sustained the injury Tuesday against the Orioles and landed on the 10-day injured list earlier Friday. Significant oblique injuries often have multi-month recovery timelines, so a return in four weeks seems optimistic for a high-grade strain. Jorbit Vivas is making his MLB debut at second base Friday versus the Rays and is expected to get regular playing time while Chisholm is out, at least initially.

Brandon Lowe 2B | TB
Rays' Brandon Lowe: Idle versus lefty
Lowe is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees.
With left-hander Max Fried on the mound for the Yankees, Lowe will take a seat. Curtis Mead is getting the start at second base and batting eighth. Lowe is hitting .209/.248/.318 with four home runs, 15 RBI, nine runs scored and a 6:31 BB:K across 117 plate appearances to begin the season.

Kristian Campbell 2B | BOS
Red Sox's Kristian Campbell: Held out again Friday
Campbell (ribs) remains out of the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Twins.
Campbell was scratched from Thursday's lineup with sore ribs and will miss a second straight start. It's unclear whether he will be available off the bench. David Hamilton will play second base in Campbell's stead.

Ketel Marte 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Back from 10-day injured list
The Diamondbacks activated Marte (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Friday.
Marte will skip a rehab assignment and go directly back onto the active roster after missing nearly a month of action with a strained left hamstring. The 31-year-old had slashed .346/.469/.462 in his first eight contests before getting hurt.

David Hamilton SS | BOS
Red Sox's David Hamilton: Starts at second base
Hamilton started at second base and went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Blue Jays.
Hamilton filled in for Kristian Campbell, who was scratched from the lineup after feeling rib soreness while stretching prior to the game. Hamilton's potential value has been limited due to lack of playing time behind Campbell. Thursday's steal was his third in 14 games, and the activity was his first appearance in a week. He'll be the primary fill-in at the keystone while Campbell is unavailable.

Jazz Chisholm CF | NYY
Yankees' Jazz Chisholm: Lands on IL with oblique strain
The Yankees placed Chisholm on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right oblique strain.
Chisholm suffered the injury during Tuesday's game in Baltimore. While he and the team were holding out hope that he could avoid a stint on the IL, it ultimately didn't happen. Chisholm will be eligible for activation May 10, but it's uncertain at this point whether he'll be ready to go on that date. Pablo Reyes and Oswald Peraza should see the bulk of the second-base reps while Chisholm is shelved.

Marcus Semien 2B | NYM
Rangers' Marcus Semien: Getting better
Semien went 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in Thursday's 3-0 loss to the Athletics.
Like several Texas hitters Semien is off to a slow start, but he's coming around. Thursday's single extended his hit streak to six games, during which he's batting .400 with a .520 on-base percentage. Since being dropped from leadoff to the fifth spot in the batting order, Semien has a .787 OPS over 10 games compared to .401 in 21 games atop the order.

Tim Tawa 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Tim Tawa: Adds insurance
Tawa went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Mets.
Tawa gave the Diamondbacks a two-run cushion in the top of the ninth inning with his fifth home run. After swatting 32 home runs in two minor-league stops in 2024, Tawa has a combined eight through 25 games for Triple-A Reno and Arizona this season. It should be noted that Ketel Marte (hamstring) is with the D-backs on their road trip and could be activated for the weekend series in Philadelphia. Marte's return means fewer opportunities for Tawa and Garrett Hampson.
