Mendick started once -- a fill-in start at shortstop -- over the last five games.

Mendick started at second base in 16 of the first 20 games following Nick Madrigal's season-ending hamstring injury, but he appears to have lost the role as the primary fill- in. Leury Garcia has started at second base the last five games.

Hernandez went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an RBI double in Friday's 11-5 win over Philadelphia.

The 29-year-old got Boston off to a positive start, leading off the first inning with his 11th homer of the year. Hernandez added insurance in the fifth with a ground-rule double to plate Christian Vazquez. Through 307 plate appearances, Hernandez has maintained a .242/.316/.440 slash line with 30 RBI and 43 runs scored.

Wong was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake prior to Friday's game against the Mariners, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

This will mark the third trip to the big leagues for Wong this season. He didn't find much success with the Angels in his previous stints, as he slashed .179/.200/.282 across 43 plate appearances. He figures to serve in a reserve role going forward.

Rodgers is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Padres.

Rodgers will get his first breather since June 29. Chris Owings will man the keystone and bat eighth Friday.

Chavis was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

The 25-year-old was sent to the minors at the start of the week but will rejoin the Red Sox with Danny Santana (quadriceps) going to the injured list. Chavis is hitting .207/.230/.328 in 61 plate appearances this season and should provide infield depth for Boston.

Albies (neck) is starting at second base and batting third Friday against the Marlins.

The 24-year-old exited Wednesday's game against the Pirates with neck tightness, but he's ready to play after Thursday's scheduled off day. Albies is 6-for-25 with a double, a walk, three RBI, two runs and two stolen bases through seven games in July.

Brujan was recalled by the Rays on Friday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Brujan has had a busy few days. He was called up Wednesday but was merely the extra man for a doubleheader against Cleveland, though he did appear in both contests, going 1-for-6 with a steal. He was sent back down Thursday but is back in the big leagues just one day later, with Mike Brosseau (oblique) hitting the injured list to clear a spot. Expect Brujan to feature frequently at several spots around the diamond, though he might have something short of a true everyday role.

Rojas went 2-for-5 in Thursday's 9-3 loss to Colorado.

Rojas entered the contest on a 1-for-22 run before adding hits in his first two plate appearances. He's been getting steady work -- he's started six of the last seven games at corner outfield and middle infield -- while batting at or near the top of the order. The Diamondbacks will continue to develop the 27-year-old, who is batting .251 over 84 games, but there's been some element of luck. Statcast estimates his expected batting average to be 23 points lower.

Urias went 1-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 5-3 win over Cincinnati.

The 24-year-old hasn't been a huge threat for stolen bases, but he's now 4-for-4 on the basepaths this year. Urias has added 12 home runs, 42 RBI, 41 runs scored and a .243/.332/.431 slash line while often serving as Milwaukee's leadoff hitter lately.

Merrifield went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base Thursday against Cleveland.

Merrifield opened the scoring in the third inning, singling home Michael Taylor for his 46th RBI of the season. He also reached base on an Amed Rosario throwing error in the fifth and promptly stole second base, his major league-leading 24th theft on the year. Merrifield's bat has gone cold over the last six contests -- Thursday's hit was just his second in his last 28 at-bats (.071) -- but the 32-year-old is still slashing a solid .275/.328/.414 overall in 2021.
