  • Cubs' Miles Mastrobuoni: Playing time picking up

Mastrobuoni will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

With Dansby Swanson (knee) recently going on the injured list and with Nico Hoerner (hamstring) out of the lineup for the second day in a row, Mastrobuoni has been the main beneficiary from a playing-time perspective. He'll draw his fifth start in seven games Wednesday and could continue to see fairly steady playing time in the middle infield even if Hoerner avoids a trip to the IL.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Held out again Wednesday

Hoerner (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Atlanta, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Hoerner was a late scratch ahead of Tuesday's 7-0 loss with left hamstring tightness and still isn't feeling up to playing. Hamstring injuries are notoriously tricky, but the Cubs haven't indicated at this point that Hoerner will require a stint on the injured list. Miles Mastrobuoni will again fill in at shortstop.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Scratched from lineup

India was a late scratch from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Arizona due to a migraine, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Spencer Steer will shift to second base to cover for India, while Jacob Hurtubise will enter the lineup in left field. Consider India day-to-day for the time being.

  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Getting rest in series finale

Garcia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

The White Sox are bringing southpaw Garrett Crochet to the hill for the series finale, so the Nationals will stock up on some extra right-handed bats. The lefty-hitting Garcia will hit the bench after he went 1-for-8 with a walk while starting at second base in both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader. Trey Lipscomb will fill in for Garcia at the keystone.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Mets' Joey Wendle: Cast off 40-man roster

The Mets designated Wendle for assignment Wednesday.

Unless another team opts to put in a waiver claim for Wendle, the Mets will owe him the money remaining on his one-year, $2 million deal. Signed in November to provide depth in the infield, Wendle rarely saw action for the Mets and struggled to produce in his limited opportunities, slashing .222/.243/.250 across 37 plate appearances.

  • Brice Turang 2B | MIL

Brewers' Brice Turang: Getting Wednesday off

Turang is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

The Brewers are facing left-hander Martin Perez in a day game after a night game, so manager Pat Murphy likely viewed Wednesday's contest as an opportune time to give the lefty-hitting Turang a breather. Turang had batted out of the leadoff spot in each of the last seven games, going 8-for-27 (.296 average) with two stolen bases, three RBI and three runs.

  • Jared Triolo 3B | PIT

Pirates' Jared Triolo: Struggling in Hayes' absence

Triolo went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Tuesday against the Brewers.

Even with Nick Gonzales in the majors, Triolo has continued to serve as an everyday player for the Pirates while playing third base in the absence of Ke'Bryan Hayes (back). Triolo's playing time is likely to be in jeopardy once Hayes can return, however, as he has only two hits across his last 27 at-bats and has just a .521 OPS in 157 plate appearances for the season.

  • Nick Gonzales 2B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Swats two-run homer

Gonzales went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run during Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Brewers.

It took Gonzales just five games since being called up from Triple-A to notch a home run, as he tagged Joe Ross for a two-run shot in the fourth inning. While Tuesday's contest marked Gonzales' second multi-RBI game this year, he's yet to generate multiple hits in a single game and is slashing .214/.267/.429 with a stolen base in 16 plate appearances.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Scratched from lineup

Hoerner was scratched from Tuesday's lineup against Atlanta due to left hamstring tightness, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Hoerner was originally slated to bat leadoff for Chicago in Game 2 of its series in Atlanta, but he will now be forced to take a seat. More information on his injury will likely be provided following the contest, but in the meantime, Miles Mastrobuoni will take over at shortstop and bat eighth against Atlanta.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Getting breather Tuesday

Marte is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.

Marte returned to second base for the last two games after spending two contests at designated hitter due to general body soreness. It would appear that him being absent from Tuesday's lineup is just a routine day off. Blaze Alexander is getting a start at second base and will bat second for the Diamondbacks.
