Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Slugs first homer

Chavis went 1-for-6 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 11-6 win over the Orioles.

Seeing his first action since his promotion Friday, Chavis took Zac Lowther deep in the second inning for his first homer of the year. Chavis has slugged 24 home runs over 138 games during his MLB career, but he's also struck out 179 times including two whiffs Saturday, making him a volatile fantasy option while he's on the Red Sox roster.

  • Danny Mendick 3B | CHW

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Smashes two-run shot

Mendick started in right field and went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's victory over the Royals.

The right-handed hitter smashed a two-run shot off Daniel Lynch in what was a blowout from the first inning on. This was his first appearance in the outfield, as manager Tony La Russa navigates injuries to Eloy Jimenez (pectoral), Luis Robert (hip) and Adam Engel (hamstring). It was the first homer for Mendick and he is now slashing .350/.500/.500 in his small sample.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Hits walkoff single

Torres went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI in Saturday's win over Washington.

Both of Torres' hits were huge for the Yankees. He tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI single, then won it with a walkoff single in the bottom of the 11th, a perfectly placed mishit that didn't get past pitcher Tanner Rainey but was enough to get the run home.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Twins' Luis Arraez: Resumes light activities

Arraez (concussion) has resumed light baseball activities, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Arraez has been out since Monday due to concussion symptoms, but his recent participation in baseball activities is encouraging. He's eligible to return from the seven-day injured list as early as Tuesday.

  • Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC

Royals' Nicky Lopez: Takes seat Saturday

Lopez isn't starting Saturday against the White Sox.

Lopez has gone hitless with a walk and six strikeouts in 14 at-bats across his last four games. Hanser Alberto will start at shortstop and bat seventh.

  • Elvis Andrus 2B | ARI

Athletics' Elvis Andrus: Takes seat Saturday

Andrus isn't starting Saturday's game against the Rays.

Andrus has gone 1-for-11 with two strikeouts in his last three games. Vimael Machin will start at shortstop and bat ninth.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Twins' Jorge Polanco: Productive at plate Friday

Polanco went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two walks, two RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 7-3 win over Detroit.

Polanco put together just his second game this season in which he reached base four times, and his first in which he drew multiple walks. The 27-year-old infielder is up to two home runs, 14 RBI, 15 runs scored and two stolen bases through 119 plate appearances. He still has a career-worst slash line of .219/.294/.352 in 29 games, but he's shown signs of improvement with multiple hits in three of the last seven contests.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Recalled by Boston

Chavis was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Friday.

Chavis briefly joined the major-league roster earlier in the season, but he'll now return to the Red Sox after Enrique Hernandez (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Chavis could see playing time at second base or in the outfield while Hernandez is sidelined.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Placed on 10-day IL

Hernandez was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain Friday.

Hernandez was removed from Thursday's game against the Tigers due to a right hamstring issue, and he's now been diagnosed with a strain that will force him to miss additional time. Michael Chavis was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move and could see playing time while Hernandez is unavailable.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

    Twins' Luis Arraez: Symptoms subsiding

Arraez's concussion symptoms have subsided, and he's expected to return from the injured list when first eligible Tuesday or soon after, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Arraez left Monday's game against the Rangers with concussion symptoms and was placed on the seven-day injured list the next day. He's yet to resume baseball activities but is expected to do so soon.
