White Sox's Jose Abreu: Homers in loss

Abreu went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Saturday's loss to the Yankees.

Abreu took Nestor Cortes deep in the top of the third inning, driving in Tim Anderson and Andrew Vaughn in the process. The long ball was his fourth of the year and first since May 4. The first baseman has struggled in the power department this year, but he has now notched three extra-base hits over his past four games while batting .267 with five RBI in those contests. Overall, Abreu has produced a disappointing .207/.296/.343 slash line this year over 140 at-bats.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Not starting Saturday

Tellez isn't starting Saturday against the Nationals.

Tellez has been an everyday player for the Brewers recently, but he'll get his first day off since April 28 after he went 5-for-18 with two homers, a double, five RBI and three runs over the last five games. Keston Hiura will draw the start at first base and bat sixth.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Reinstated, starting Saturday

Mountcastle (wrist/forearm) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Saturday.

Mountcastle had been sidelined since May 11 due to a left wrist forearm strain, but he'll serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth Saturday. Prior to his absence, the 25-year-old hit .268 with four homers, three doubles, 16 RBI, 10 runs and two stolen bases over 28 games to begin the year.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Added to Saturday's lineup

Flores was added to the lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The 30-year-old was scheduled to get a day off Saturday, but he'll serve as the designated hitter and bat second after Brandon Belt (knee) was scratched from the lineup. Flores has gone 4-for-13 with a double, three runs, two RBI, a walk and a strikeout over the last three games.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Not in Saturday's lineup

Flores will sit Saturday against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Flores is having a typical season, hitting a solid-but-unspectacular .266/.331/.403 while appearing at multiple spots around the infield. He could see a few more off days going forward now that Evan Longoria (finger) is back from the injured list, though both Flores and Longoria will sit Saturday while Tommy La Stella handles the hot corner.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Mariners' Ty France: Keeps hitting Friday

France went 2-for-4 with a double in a loss to the Red Sox on Friday.

France has only gone deep once since April 26, but he now boasts six multi-hit efforts in his last 10 games. The breakout star boasts a .375/.444/.550 slash line across 45 plate appearances during that span, and his current 10.6 percent strikeout rate is a career-low figure.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Snaps power drought Friday

Cronenworth went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and two additional runs Friday in an 8-7 victory versus San Francisco.

Cronenworth hit out of the leadoff spot for the 12th straight game and scored three of the Padres' eight runs. In the third inning, he knocked a two-run homer to right field that was his first long ball since late April. Cronenworth has yet to get going offensively this season, slashing .207/.304/.338 with three homers, 17 RBI and no stolen bases across 168 plate appearances.

  • Alfonso Rivas 1B | STL

Cubs' Alfonso Rivas: Takes seat Saturday

Rivas isn't starting Saturday against Arizona.

Rivas has gone 0-for-11 with a run, two walks and six strikeouts over the last four games, and he'll get a breather with left-hander Madison Bumgarner starting for the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Frank Schwindel will start at first base while Willson Contreras serves as the designated hitter.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Drives in lone run Friday

Torkelson went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI in Friday's 6-1 loss to the Guardians.

For the second straight game, the Tigers scored just one run, and in both of those contests, Torkelson provided the offense. On Wednesday, he blasted a solo home run, while on Friday it was a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. Despite Detroit's struggles overall, the rookie is starting to show some signs of life. Over his past six games, Torkelson is slashing .353/.368/.647 with a home run and three RBI.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Swipes third bag

Freeman went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 4-1 win over the Phillies.

The first baseman was involved in every run the Dodgers scored on the night. Freeman has multi-hit performances in three of his last five games as he continues to be worth every penny he got paid in the offseason, and on the season he's slashing .322/.414/.497 with three homers, three steals, 21 RBI and 25 runs in 38 games.
