Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Slugs 100th career home run
Guerrero went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Rays.
Guerrero got Toronto on the board early as he hit a solo homer to left field in the first inning. The long ball was the 100th of his career and 28th on the season. It was also his first since Aug. 30, breaking a 63 at-bat homerless drought, his longest of the season. Guerrero is slashing .278/.342/.485 through 142 games this season.

Cubs' Jared Young: Contract selected
Young had his contract selected by the Cubs on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The 27-year-old will receive his first taste of the big leagues with Rafael Ortega (finger) headed to the 60-day injured list Wednesday. Young has been with Triple-A Iowa all season and has a .225/.308/.408 slash line with 16 home runs, 57 RBI and 60 runs in 450 plate appearances.

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Heading for X-rays on hand
Hoskins exited Wednesday's game against the Marlins with a right hand contusion and will undergo X-rays, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Hoskins was hit by a pitch on his right hand during the third inning and stayed in to run the bases, but he was replaced in the field for the following frame. The 29-year-old should be considered day-to-day until the results of the X-ray are disclosed.

Freddie Freeman 1B | LAD
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Receives first day off
Freeman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game at Arizona, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
The Dodgers clinched the NL West crown with their win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, and Freeman will step out of the lineup Wednesday for the first time all season. The 33-year-old continues to crush the ball in September with a 1.159 OPS through 12 games, but he'll receive a well-deserved day off. Miguel Vargas will take over at first base and bat sixth.
-
Nick Pratto 1B | TEX
Royals' Nick Pratto: Excluded from Wednesday's lineup
Pratto isn't starting Wednesday against the Twins.
Pratto will get a breather after he went 0-for-9 with a run, an RBI, a walk and six strikeouts over the last three games. Vinnie Pasquantino will start at first base and bat cleanup Wednesday.

Alfonso Rivas 1B | STL
Cubs' Alfonso Rivas: Heads to bench versus lefty
Rivas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.
Rivas went 5-for-20 with a triple, two walks and two stolen bases while starting each of the past six games at first base, but he'll give way to P.J. Higgins in the series finale while lefty David Peterson takes the hill for the Mets. Both Rivas and Higgins could lose out on playing time at the position in the near future if the Cubs decide to give Patrick Wisdom more work at first base following his recent return from the injured list.

Aranda isn't starting Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Freddie Freeman 1B | LAD
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Reaches 20-homer mark
Freeman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in a 4-0 win against Arizona on Tuesday.
Freeman slugged one of Los Angeles' three homers in the contest, belting a 442-foot solo shot in the third inning. The long ball was his 20th of the campaign, giving him 20-plus homers in every season since 2016 aside from the shortened 2020 campaign. Freeman has been picking up his power of late, smashing four home runs over his past eight contests.

Matt Beaty 1B | KC
Matt Beaty: Bound for open market
Beaty declined his outright assignment to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday and elected free agency.
After recently losing his spot on the Padres' 40-man roster, Beaty likely didn't see a path to getting a look in the big leagues over the final few weeks and will instead opt to get a head start on finding a new home for the 2023 campaign. The 29-year-old struggled to make an impact at the big-league level in 2022, slashing .093/.170/.163 over 47 plate appearances with San Diego.
