  • Kevin Padlo 1B | LAD

Pirates' Kevin Padlo: Claimed by Pittsburgh

The Pirates claimed Padlo off waivers and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Padlo was designated for assignment by Seattle on Friday and will now join his third team of 2022. The 26-year-old is 4-for-22 in 10 games between the Mariners and Giants this year, but he's spent most of the year at the Triple-A level, where he has a .245/.327/.455 slash line in 60 contests between the two organizations.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Gets sixth straight start

Montero will start at first base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Though Montero doesn't have a clear-cut path to a full-time role at any spot, he'll pick up his sixth start in a row Sunday while having moved between first base, third base and designated hitter. Montero has made it tough for manager Bud Black to take him out of the lineup by going 7-for-17 with a home run and three doubles in his five starts since being recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque. The rookie looks like he could continue to get steady run while Kris Bryant (foot) is on the injured list.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Mariners' Carlos Santana: Heads to bench

Santana is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

Mitch Haniger (ankle) returned Saturday from a lengthy stay on the injured list and will step in as the Mariners' designated hitter Sunday, leaving no room in the lineup for Santana while Ty France handles duties at first base. Haniger should end up seeing most of his playing time in right field for the rest of the season, but his return could force Santana to battle with Kyle Lewis for one spot in the Mariners' everyday lineup.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Heads to bench

Flores is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

With the Giants bringing back Brandon Crawford, Joc Pederson and Thairo Estrada from the injured list this weekend and Evan Longoria (hamstring) on track to be activated Monday, Flores' time as an everyday player could be over. Due to the high volume of left-handed hitters on the roster, the righty-hitting Flores should at least retain a regular spot in the lineup versus southpaws.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Mariners' Ty France: Belts 14th homer Saturday

France went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk during a win over the Angels in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.

France's 393-foot shot left in the third inning would prove to be the difference in the low-scoring game. The 28-year-old's homer was his fourth in the last 11 games, and he's now just five away from eclipsing the career-high 18 he slugged in 2021.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Sitting again Sunday

Cooper is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Cubs, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Cooper is 1-for-9 since being reinstated from the injured list Wednesday and finds himself on the bench Sunday for the second straight game. Nick Fortes will serve as the desgianted hitter while Lewin Diaz receives the start at first in the series finale at Wrigley Field.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Not starting Sunday, as expected

Rizzo (back) remains out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

DJ LeMahieu will pick up another start at first base while Rizzo takes a seat for the third consecutive game as he continues to contend with lower-back tightness. Per Erik Boland of Newsday, manager Aaron Boone said Rizzo is "better" Sunday, but the Yankees are likely to stay away from the 32-year-old as a pinch-hitting option off the bench with the hope he's ready to rejoin the lineup for Monday's series opener in Seattle.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Guardians' Josh Naylor: Logs third steal Saturday

Naylor went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Astros.

Naylor's faded a bit from his hot finish to July, going just 3-for-19 (.158) with two walks and no extra-base hits through five games in August. It's not costing him playing time yet even as the Guardians mix in some prospects and get healthier, as he remains a fixture in the lineup versus right-handed pitchers. He's slashing .274/.326/.489 with 14 home runs, three steals, 53 RBI and 32 runs scored across 301 plate appearances.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Nationals' Luke Voit: Hits first homer with Nats

Voit went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 11-5 loss to the Phillies.

Voit has gotten off to a good start to his time in Washington, having gone 4-for-10 with a walk in addition to the home run. He'll start at first base and bat third in Sunday's series finale, and manager Dave Martinez said Voit will be a regular in the lineup down the stretch.

  • Alex Kirilloff LF | MIN

Twins' Alex Kirilloff: Needs wrist surgery

Kirilloff is scheduled to undergo season-ending ulnar shortening surgery on his right wrist next Tuesday in Los Angeles, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Kirilloff has now missed time on account of issues with his right wrist in three of the past four seasons, so the Twins are hoping that the surgery will address the matter once and for all. It's the second major procedure of Kirilloff's career, as the 24-year-old previously missed the entire 2017 minor-league campaign after requiring Tommy John surgery. Though the Twins expect Kirilloff to get a clean bill of health heading into spring training, he could need some time to regain strength in the wrist and tap into more power. Perhaps due in no small part due to the lingering wrist problems, Kirilloff has already struggled to hit for the sort of power in the majors that many projected during his prospect days, as he owns a .398 slugging percentage over 387 career big-league plate appearances.
