  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Padres' Josh Bell: Steps out of lineup

Bell is not in the lineup for Friday's game at Arizona.

Bell started the past 22 games and will take a seat Friday after he posted a .787 OPS with three home runs and nine RBI during that span. Jorge Alfaro will bat sixth as the designated hitter Friday.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Could return Sunday

Rizzo (head) participated in live batting practice Friday, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

Rizzo "looked good" according to Scott Effross, who threw against Rizzo as part of his own rehab from a shoulder injury. The Yankees are hoping to activate Rizzo on Sunday ahead of their final game in Milwaukee.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Out of Friday's lineup

Cooper is not in Friday's lineup against the Nationals.

Cooper has been playing regularly and hitting high in the lineup, slashing .289/.347/.489 with one home run and six doubles in 13 games this month. Jon Berti will start at designated hitter while Bryan De La Cruz mans left field.

  • Nick Pratto 1B | TEX

Royals' Nick Pratto: Out Friday against righty

Pratto is not in Friday's lineup against the Red Sox.

Pratto is hitting .103 with a 40 percent strikeout rate in 11 games this month, and things have gotten so bad that he's out of Friday's lineup even against a right-hander in Michael Wacha. Vinnie Pasquantino is starting at first base, while MJ Melendez is the designated hitter.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Out again Friday

Hoskins (hand) is not in Friday's lineup against Atlanta, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

He exited Wednesday's contest after being hit on the hand by a pitch, and while X-rays were negative, the bruise is apparently still too uncomfortable for him to return to action. Alec Bohm is starting at first base while Yairo Munoz starts at third base.

  • Rays' Jonathan Aranda: Sitting Friday

Aranda is not in Friday's lineup against the Rangers.

Aranda's strong hit tool has translated well so far to the majors, but his defensive shortcomings have also been apparent. He is slashing .316/.409/.579 with one home run, five strikeouts and three walks in 22 plate appearances this month. Taylor Walls is starting at second base while Christian Bethancourt starts at first base.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Slugs 16th homer

Vaughn went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Thursday against the Guardians.

Vaughn went back-to-back with Gavin Sheets in the second inning to tally his 16th homer of the season. He's now surpassed his home run total from 2021, though it took an extra 29 plate appearances for him to do so. Vaughn also has at least one hit in seven of his last eight starts, maintaining a .379 average with six RBI and three runs scored in that span. For the season, he has maintained a .290/.340/.460 line across 500 plate appearances.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Drives in pair

Abreu went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI on Thursday against the Guardians.

Abreu didn't join the White Sox home run barrage Thursday, but he still had a productive effort -- highlighted by RBI singles in the fifth and ninth innings. He now has at least one hit in 16 of 18 starts since Aug. 27, during which time he's maintained a .347 average with 10 RBI and 11 runs scored. Abreu has shown no signs of slowing down overall, posting a .313/.386/.458 line across 616 plate appearances on the campaign.

  • Yandy Diaz DH | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Slugs ninth homer

Diaz went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Diaz took Kevin Gausman yard in the second inning to start the rout for the Rays. It was Diaz's ninth homer of the season and first in his last 54 at-bats, though he still managed to hit .407 with eight runs scored in that span. For the season, Diaz is hitting .294/.402/.425 across 535 plate appearances.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Officially out of lineup

Hoskins (hand) isn't starting Thursday's game against the Marlins.

Hoskins exited Wednesday's matchup after being hit in the hand by a pitch, but he underwent X-rays that came back negative. While he wasn't expected to be in Thursday's lineup, it's possible the 29-year-old returns to action Friday against Atlanta. Alec Bohm is taking over at first base and batting fifth Thursday.
