  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Taking soft-toss swings

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told MLB.com on Friday that Walker (oblique) is swinging against soft-toss pitching and doing light running.

Walker, who landed on the injured list July 30, remains hopeful he'll be ready to go by the three-week mark, which is fast approaching. This coming week marks his potential return. Fortunately for Arizona, the team has covered his absence well with the addition of Josh Bell, and the Diamondbacks don't have to rush Walker back.

  • Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino: Gets aboard four times in win

Pasquantino went 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI, a walk and two runs scored in Saturday's 13-1 win over the Reds.

Pasquantino has picked up five RBI over his last three games, going 6-for-14 in that span. The first baseman contributed an RBI double in the Royals' seven-run third inning in this blowout win. Aside from a four-game dry spell from Aug. 9-13, Pasquantino has been dialed in during the second half. He's up to a .264/.318/.454 slash line with 18 home runs, 89 RBI, 57 runs scored, 27 doubles and a stolen base through 501 plate appearances.

  • Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Homer, three RBI in win

Tellez went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Mariners.

Tellez gave the Pirates the lead on a two-run homer in the fourth inning and later added an RBI double in the seventh. While the long ball was his first since July 24, the first baseman has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games. He will continue to sit against left-handed pitchers but is batting .250 with 10 home runs and 42 RBI across 333 plate appearances in 2024.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Two extra-base hits in return

Torkelson went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Yankees.

Torkelson registered two hard hits and reached base three times in his first major-league contest since June 1. The 24-year-old slashed .239/.356/.442 across 275 plate appearances at Triple-A Toledo and seems likely to receive the bulk of playing time at first base for the remainder of the 2024 season.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Guardians' Josh Naylor: Launches homer in loss

Naylor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Brewers.

Naylor's fourth-inning blast was the Guardians' lone run, briefly tying the game at 1-1 before William Contreras responded with a solo shot of his own a half-inning later. Through 16 games in August, Naylor has batted .283 (17-for-60) with four homers and 15 RBI. The first baseman is slashing .247/.326/.482 with 27 homers, 89 RBI, 69 runs scored, 19 doubles and five stolen bases through 115 contests overall. He hasn't missed a game since sitting out for three contests due to general soreness in late July.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: X-rays negative, DTD

X-rays on Freeman's right middle finger came back negative Saturday, and he's considered day-to-day, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Freeman's finger swelled up after being jammed in the sixth inning, resulting in his removal. The negative X-rays are confirmation Freeman's not dealing with anything serious, and he could even be in the lineup Sunday if the swelling subsides. However, he won't have much time to recover with first pitch scheduled for shortly after 2:00 pm ET on Sunday.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Exits with jammed finger

The Dodgers removed Freeman from Saturday's game against the Cardinals due to a jammed finger, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Freeman jammed the middle finger on his right hand fielding a groundball in the sixth inning, and he was ultimately removed due to the issue. Freeman went 1-for-3 with an RBI single prior to leaving. While a jammed finger isn't usually a big deal, he should be considered day-to-day for the time being.

  • Niko Kavadas 1B | LAA

Angels' Niko Kavadas: Not facing lefty

Kavadas is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta.

Kavadas went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a walk in his MLB debut Friday, but he'll take a seat Saturday against southpaw Chris Sale. Kavadas figures to see plenty of action at DH against right-handers now that Willie Calhoun is off the Angels' roster.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Padres' Luis Arraez: Not facing lefty

Arraez is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies.

With southpaw Kyle Freeland on the bump for Colorado, the lefty-hitting Arraez will take a seat on the bench. In his last eight games, Arraez is 14-for-36 (.389) with five RBI, seven runs and two stolen bases. Manny Machado will DH on Saturday while Donovan Solano plays the hot corner.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: On bench Saturday

Hoskins is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Cleveland.

Hoskins will get a chance to regroup Saturday after going 0-for-7 with four strikeouts across his last two games. Jake Bauers will play first base while William Contreras serves as the DH.
