Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Undergoes procedure on wrist
Cooper underwent successful surgery on his right wrist tendon Friday, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.
Cooper remains without a concrete timetable for his recovery after undergoing this procedure, but given that he hasn't played since July 20, his 2018 campaign would seem to be over. The 27-year-old hit .212 with two RBI in 14 games for the Marlins this season.

Chris Shaw 1B | CHW
Giants' Chris Shaw: Contract to be selected from minors
Shaw will have his contract purchased from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Shaw will join the active roster and take the place of Andrew McCutchen on the 40-man after the veteran was traded to the Yankees in exchange for Abiatal Avelino and Juan De Paula on Friday. Across 101 games with Sacramento this year, Shaw has slashed .259/.308/.505 with 24 home runs and 65 RBI. The left fielder has power that is sorely needed in the Giants' lineup, though the club's home park won't be of much assistance. Look for Shaw to receive plenty of opportunities to show off his potential over the final month of the 2018 campaign during his first taste of the big leagues.

Freddie Freeman 1B | LAD
Braves' Freddie Freeman: Triples, drives in three
Freeman went 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Cubs.
Freeman singled in a run during the third inning before knocking a two-run triple in the fifth. The performance is nothing out of the ordinary for the 28-year-old, who now owns a terrific .311/.394/.512 line and 81 RBI in 591 plate appearances.

Joey Votto 1B | TOR
Reds' Joey Votto: Returns from DL on Thursday
Votto (lower leg) was activated from the 10-day DL and will bat third in Thursday's lineup versus Milwaukee, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Votto will be back at first base and hitting in his typical spot in the order after missing the past 12 games due to a right lower-leg contusion. Across 118 contests this year, Votto is hitting .284/.422/.419 with nine home runs and 55 RBI. The Reds have yet to make a corresponding move.

Carlos Santana 1B | ARI
Phillies' Carlos Santana: Blasts grand slam in win over Nats
Santana went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Nationals.
The Phillies were down 5-2 in the fifth inning before Santana turned the game around with his 20th homer of the year. The veteran slugger has picked up the pace a little in August, slashing .259/.340/.459 through 25 games with four home runs and 14 RBI, and while his overall numbers are down from his days in Cleveland, the 32-year-old's 77 RBI leave him just 10 shy of his previous career high set in 2016.

Joey Votto 1B | TOR
Reds' Joey Votto: Not in Wednesday's lineup
Votto (lower leg) has not been activated from the disabled list ahead of Wednesday's game, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
There was a chance Votto would return to the lineup Wednesday after participating in an early morning workout, but it looks like he will need at least another day before rejoining the active roster. Per C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic, manager Jim Riggleman added that Votto could be back Thursday, at the earliest, so he won't be available off the bench Wednesday. With the Reds out of playoff contention, the club will continue to be cautious with its star first baseman.

Asdrubal Cabrera 1B | CIN
Phillies' Asdrubal Cabrera: Not in Wednesday's lineup
Cabrera is out of the lineup against the Nationals on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.
Cabrera will receive a breather after starting the past nine games as Scott Kingery draws a start at shortstop for the series finale. Since joining the Phillies in late July, Cabrera has slashed just .215/.257/.346 with two home runs, nine RBI and 26 strikeouts in 28 games.

Wilmer Flores 1B | SF
Mets' Wilmer Flores: Not in Wednesday's lineup
Flores is out of the lineup versus the Cubs on Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Flores will remain on the bench for the third time in the past four games as Jay Bruce gets another start at first base. Over the past six games, Flores is just 2-for-16 with one RBI.

Joey Votto 1B | TOR
Reds' Joey Votto: Slated for another workout Wednesday
Votto (lower leg) is expected to complete a workout early Wednesday before the Reds make a decision on whether to activate him ahead of their game against the Brewers later in the day, the Associated Press reports.
Votto was spotted on the field prior to Tuesday's game and took grounders at first base while doing some running and sliding. The 34-year-old had been hobbled by a bad bruise on his right leg since the first week of the month before the Reds finally elected to shut him down Aug. 16. His recent on-field activity suggests that he's made some progress in his recovery, but the non-contending Reds aren't likely to activate Votto unless they're convinced he's close to 100 percent healthy.
