  • P.J. Higgins 1B | CIN

Cubs' P.J. Higgins: Transferred to 60-day IL

Higgins (forearm) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

The backup catcher is now set to miss an extended time with his strained right forearm, keeping Jose Lobaton in that role until Austin Romine (wrist) returns near the end of the month. It remains unclear exactly how long Higgins will be sidelined.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Riding pine Wednesday

Cronenworth isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

Cronenworth will get a breather after he went 1-for-7 with a run across the last two games. Ha-Seong Kim will start at second base and bat seventh.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Average climbing

Walker went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-8 loss to the Giants.

Walker, who has been held out of the lineup against right-handers at times, has started seven of the last eight contests, including four of five against righties. The first baseman is 8-for-28 with three extra-base hits, five RBI and seven runs scored as a starter during that stretch. The average is still a meager .212, but he's making better contact.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Plays hero Tuesday

Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a home run and an additional RBI in Tuesday's win over the Marlins.

Goldschmidt was the main reason why the Cardinals came out on top in this low-scoring affair, as he was involved in all the offense St. Louis would be able to muster. The star first baseman plated a run in the sixth following an RBI single that scored Jose Rondon, and he later delivered the game-winning home run with a walkoff bomb off Yimi Garcia in the ninth. Goldschmidt, who's now recorded back-to-back two-hit performances, has hit safely in eight of the Cardinals' last 10 games.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Back on bench Tuesday

Wade is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.

Wade is unlikely to see many starts against southpaws, so his absence from Tuesday's lineup comes as no surprise with San Francisco facing lefty Alex Young. He should continue to see semi-consistent starts against righties, though Mike Yastrzemski's recent return from the injured list could lead to fewer at-bats for Wade going forward.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

    Nationals' Josh Bell: Sitting Tuesday

Bell is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates.

Bell's .250/.308/.444 line thus far in June is nothing special, but it's at least better than the .207/.268/.400 line he produced in the first two months of the year. He'll sit in favor of Ryan Zimmerman on Tuesday.

  • Brock Stassi 1B | SF

Phillies' Brock Stassi: Re-signs with Phillies

Stassi agreed Tuesday with the Phillies on a minor-league contract, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Philadelphia selected Stassi in the 33rd round of the 2011 first-year player draft, and he ended up making his MLB debut with the club six years later in his age-27 season. After posting an unremarkable .573 OPS in 90 plate appearances, Stassi was designated for assignment in August of that year and has since bounced around between multiple organizations and leagues. The now-31-year-old most recently appeared for the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, turning in four multi-hit games in 13 contests. He will report to the Phillies' Double-A affiliate in Reading as he begins his second stint in the organization.

  • Donovan Solano 1B | TEX

Giants' Donovan Solano: Doubles, scores twice in win

Solano went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs Monday in a 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

The two extra-base hits were Solano's first since he homered back on May 29 in a win over the Dodgers. The 33-year-old typically doesn't hit for much power, but his strong bat-to-ball skills often translate to high batting averages. He's hit over .300 in both of the past two seasons, and his current .267 mark in 2021 could stand to improve, as his .306 BABIP is abnormally low for him.

  • Dominic Smith 1B | ATL

Mets' Dominic Smith: Belts fifth homer

Smith went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored in Monday's 5-2 win over the Cubs.

The 26-year-old snapped an 0-for-21 skid with the performance. It's been a tough season so far for Smith, but he's hit three of his five homers through 12 games in June despite a lackluster .225 batting average.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Slugs eighth homer

Rizzo went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Mets.

It's the third homer in the last six games for the first baseman, giving him eight long balls on the year. Rizzo has found his stroke at the plate in June, slashing .286/.327/.531 with 11 RBI in 13 games as he looks to erase a sluggish start to the season.
