  • Marlins' Christopher Morel: Taking seat Saturday

Morel isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets.

Morel has slashed just .163/.212/.204 across 52 plate appearances this month, so the Marlins will keep him on the bench Saturday against tough righty Freddy Peralta. While Morel sits, Liam Hicks will work as Miami's designated hitter, putting Connor Norby at first base and Graham Pauley at third.

  • Curtis Mead 3B | WAS

Nationals' Curtis Mead: Homers in loss Friday

Mead went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to Atlanta.

Mead singled in the first and popped a solo homer in the sixth, depositing a 90-mph sinker from Bryce Elder into the bleachers. With Brady House sent to Triple-A earlier in the week, Mead has started three straight games at third base, going 3-for-13 with the solo blast. Mead is slashing .234/.354/.449 with five homers, 17 RBI, 20 runs scored, three stolen bases and an 18:20 BB:K across 127 plate appearances this season. Mead doesn't chase pitches or strike out often and walks at a high rate.

  • Giants' Victor Bericoto: Contract selected by Giants

The Giants selected Bericoto's contract from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The 24-year-old has put together a .299/.355/.449 slash line with six home runs over his first 43 contests with Sacramento this season. Bericoto is a corner outfielder and first baseman by trade, and he will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game. It's unclear at this point what the Giants' corresponding roster move will be.

  • TJ Rumfield 1B | COL

Rockies' TJ Rumfield: Sitting against southpaw

Rumfield is not in the starting lineup Thursday night against the Diamondbacks.

Rumfield will take a seat as southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez toes the rubber for Arizona, heading to the bench for the first time since May 10. Willi Castro will slide over to first base while Chad Stevens makes his Rockies debut at second base, batting ninth in the series opener.

  • Connor Norby 1B | MIA

    Marlins' Connor Norby: Idle Thursday

Norby isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta.

Norby will grab a seat on the bench to begin Thursday's finale after going 1-for-10 with three walks, two runs and a steal over the first three games of the series. Javier Sanoja will pick up a start at third base as a result and bat ninth.

  • Luis Garcia 1B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Sitting again Thursday

Garcia is out of the starting lineup for the series finale against the Mets on Thursday.

Washington will trot out Andres Chaparro at first base for a second straight game as the left-handed-batting Garcia rides the bench against Mets southpaw David Peterson. Despite not receiving the start, Garcia pinch hit for Chaparro in the fifth inning Wednesday when the Mets brought in right-hander Austin Warren and remained in the game, going 1-for-2 with a single.

  • TJ Rumfield 1B | COL

Rockies' TJ Rumfield: Tallies 25th RBI

Rumfield went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday against the Rangers.

Rumfield did his damage early, driving in a run with a single in the opening frame. That brought his RBI total to 25 on the season, and he's hit .283 with three homers, eight RBI and 10 runs scored across 16 games in May. Rumfield is the Rockies' primary first baseman and should continue to get regular run as one of the team's better hitters.

  • Pirates' Spencer Horwitz: Opens scoring with homer

Horwitz went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-0 win over the Cardinals.

Horwitz ended a 15-game homer drought when he went deep in the second inning. While he didn't find much power during that stretch, he batted .313 with 11 RBI and a 9:7 BB:K. Horwitz is now batting .276 with an .814 OPS, four long balls, 21 RBI, 16 runs scored, one stolen base, seven doubles and a triple through 44 contests this season. He continues to handle a strong-side platoon role at first base.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

Brewers' Andrew Vaughn: Sitting again versus righty

Vaughn is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

It marks the third straight instance that the right-handed-hitting Vaughn has been out of the lineup when the opposition sent a righty to the mound (Edward Cabrera, in this case). Vaughn is hitting .323/.462/.516 in 11 games since coming off the injured list, but Jake Bauers remains the Brewers' primary first baseman against righties, with Christian Yelich filling the designated hitter slot.

  • Sal Stewart 1B | CIN

Reds' Sal Stewart: Powers win with huge day

Stewart went 4-for-5 with a double, a two-run home run and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 9-4 win over the Phillies.

The rookie slugger continues to break out of a slump that saw him post a .456 OPS across 19 games from April 26 to May 16, racking up nine hits, including two homers, with no strikeouts over his last four contests. The surge has boosted Stewart's slash line on the season back up to .265/.353/.503 with 12 long balls, 10 steals, 31 runs and 34 RBI in 50 contests.
