  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Twins' C.J. Cron: Reinstated from IL

Cron was activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. He'll start at first base and bat fifth against the Mets.

Cron was sent to the shelf July 6 due to right thumb inflammation, but he was able to return following the 10-day minimum. He's slashing .266/.326/.495 with 17 home runs and 54 RBI over 78 games this season for Minnesota.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Rays' Nate Lowe: May see time at third

Lowe took grounders at third base prior to Monday's game against the Yankees, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. "I want to see what he looks like over there," manager Kevin Cash said. "He played there in [Triple-A] Durham maybe a game or a couple of innings, but just to get more versatility to us. We're an injury from exploring that. Maybe he's a late-game situation where we have that flexibility that if he's at first, shift him over to third, we might look to do that."

Lowe had the night off Monday, but he celebrated the resumption of play after the All-Star break by securing American League Player of the Week honors for his .471 tally over the four-game weekend set against the Orioles. With Ji-Man Choi now off the injured list, Lowe's playing time may take at least a slight hit, but the ability to potentially play some third base could conceivably give the impressive rookie another route to consistent at-bats.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr.: Sitting out series opener

Guerrero is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.

Following his star turn in the Home Run Derby, Guerrero wasn't able to carry the power display into the Jays' series against the Yankees over the weekend. Guerrero went 2-for-12 while starting all three games, with both of his hits being singles. Brandon Drury will spell the rookie at the hot corner.

  • Tigers' Brandon Dixon: Bows out of lineup

Dixon is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Indians, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Dixon started all three of the Tigers' games in Kansas City over the weekend, going 3-for-10 with a pair of doubles, a walk, three RBI and two runs. The 27-year-old looks locked in as Detroit's primary first baseman, but he'll take a seat in the series opener in Cleveland while Niko Goodrum mans the position.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Rays' Nate Lowe: On bench against lefty

Lowe is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

The reigning American League Player of the Week will take a seat with a tough southpaw (James Paxton) on the bump for New York. After a huge four-game series in Baltimore over the weekend during which he went 8-for-17 with three home runs, seven RBI and six runs, Lowe looks poised to see fairly steady work even with Ji-Man Choi's recent return from the injured list crowding the Rays' first-base/designated-hitter ranks.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Rays' Nate Lowe: Scores twice in win

Lowe went 2-for-4 with two runs in a win over the Orioles on Sunday.

Lowe followed up an impressive performance in Saturday's doubleheader nightcap by crossing the plate with half of the Rays' runs Sunday. The rookie has swung a blistering hot bat since returning from the All-Star break, going 8-for-17 with a double, three home runs, seven RBI, a walk and six runs over the four-game weekend set against the Orioles.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Hits another homer

Gurriel went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and RBI single in a 12-4 victory against the Rangers on Sunday.

The 35-year-old is on one tremendous power surge, as he already has eight homers in nine games this month. Dating back to June 23, Gurriel has 11 long balls in his last 15 contests. That's more than made up for his slow start in the home run department. Gurriel is hitting .281 with 16 home runs, 55 RBI, 52 runs and three steals in 345 at-bats this season.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Blue Jays' Rowdy Tellez: Heading to minors

The Blue Jays optioned Tellez to Triple-A Buffalo following Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

Tellez struck out as a pinch hitter in his lone at-bat of the game. With Tellez on the bench for the third time in five games and having seen his playing time drop steadily for the past couple of weeks, manager Charlie Montoyo indicated that a move to Buffalo will allow the first baseman/designated hitter to receive regular at-bats and refine his plate approach. Tellez will likely be back up with the Blue Jays when rosters expand in September, if not sooner.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: Crosses plate thrice in win

Olson went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, a double, a walk and three runs in a win over the White Sox on Saturday.

Olson crossed the plate more than any other teammate during the Athletics' 13-run outburst, and his multi-hit effort extended his hitting streak to nine games. Olson already has seven RBI over his first eight games of July as well, and he's knocked in 27 of his 39 runs for the season since June 1.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Twins' C.J. Cron: Gets some running in

Cron (thumb) was on the field Sunday and took part in some baserunning drills, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Since he's dealing with a thumb injury, Cron's activity on the basepaths won't have much bearing on his recovery timeline, but his presence on the field at least suggests the Twins are preparing for a fairly brief absence. Cron is eligible to return from the 10-day injured list Tuesday and could be activated shortly after the minimum of time if he's able to take batting practice without any complications this week.
