Davis rushed twice for one yard in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Patriots.
The second-year pro from Kentucky has now rushed 13 times for 30 yards over the Bills' first five games this season, playing 38 offensive snaps. In Sunday night's loss, Ty Johnson logged more offensive snaps than Davis (12 to six) for the third consecutive game, suggesting that he's taken over as Buffalo's No. 2 running back. Davis is likely to play a limited role in the Bills' offense again in the Week 6 matchup against the Falcons.

Bills' Ray Davis: Minimal work again in Week 4
Rotowire
Davis rushed once for three yards in Sunday's 31-19 win over the Saints.
The 2024 fourth-round pick from Kentucky has logged just nine offensive snaps and received one touch over the Bills' last two games, suggesting he's now playing behind both James Cook and Ty Johnson. Davis has rushed 11 times for 29 yards through four games this season, and he'll likely play another reserve role in Buffalo's backfield in the Week 5 matchup against the Patriots.

Bills' Ray Davis: Handles nine carries against Jets
Rotowire
Davis rushed nine times for 24 yards in Sunday's 30-10 win over the Jets.
Davis saw an uptick in usage in Week 2 after playing just 10 snaps and rushing the ball once in Week 1. Despite his increased opportunities, the second-year running back was unable to get much going in the contest. Meanwhile, starter James Cook had an excellent day, finishing the game with 21 rushes for 132 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. As long as Cook is healthy, Davis should not be considered for fantasy purposes beyond an insurance policy. The 25-year-old will have his next chance to improve upon his slow start in Week 3, however, when the Bills host the Dolphins.

Bills' Ray Davis: Week 3 Adds (RB Preview)
Rotowire
This is a total dart throw, but the Dolphins defense is atrocious, and the Bills are 11.5-point favorites with an implied total of 30.5. There is a decent chance James Cook is joking on the sideline in the third quarter of this one. If he is, Davis could have some success running the clock down. He had nine carries in a blowout win over the Jets last week.

Bills' Ray Davis: Limited role in season opener
Rotowire
Davis rushed once for two yards and reeled in his lone target for minus-one yard in Sunday's 41-40 win over the Ravens.
Davis played just 10 of the Bills' 85 offensive snaps Sunday, behind starter James Cook (48) and Ty Johnson (28). With so many playmakers in Buffalo, the second-year running back should continue to struggle to earn meaningful touches out of the backfield barring an injury to Cook. With that said, Davis remains a high-value insurance policy for fantasy purposes. The 25-year-old will have his next opportunity to get involved when the Bills visit the Jets in Week 2.

Bills' Ray Davis: Quiet in second preseason game
Rotowire
Davis was held to five yards on three carries with no receptions (one target) in Sunday's 38-0 preseason loss to Chicago.
Davis got another start with James Cook on the sidelines, but the results didn't inspire hope for much role growth now that Cook's contract dispute has been resolved. In the backup running back's defense, the offense was operating without QB Josh Allen and several key starters. It's unclear if Cook will be back in the fold for the final preseason contest, or if the team will continue to allow Davis to take the reins.

Bills' Ray Davis: Shows off versatility Saturday
Rotowire
Davis carried the ball four times for seven yards, caught one of two targets for seven yards and kicked an extra point in Saturday's 34-25 preseason loss to the Giants.
James Cook was in uniform but didn't play as he continues his hold-in to try and get a contract extension, putting Davis in the backfield as the starting running back. He played most of the first half, giving way to Ty Johnson for one possession, but the highlight of Davis' afternoon was a wounded duck of a PAT after a Dawson Knox touchdown in the second quarter, as he auditioned to be Buffalo's emergency kicker while Tyler Bass (pelvis) is sidelined. Caden Davis would handle regular placekicking duties should Bass not be ready for Week 1, but Davis the RB could have his plate full on offense anyway if Cook's contract dispute lingers into the regular season, or if he isn't fully up to speed. Davis, a second-year back, may be ready for bigger volume -- in the one game Cook missed in 2024, Davis erupted for 97 rushing yards and 55 receiving yards during a Week 6 win over the Jets.

Bills' Ray Davis: Taking advantage of Cook's absence
Rotowire
Davis took first-team running back reps at Thursday's voluntary team activities with James Cook absent, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.
Davis figures to be the primary beneficiary of increased first-team reps as long as Cook's desire for a contract extension keeps him away from the team, though Ty Johnson may also get some extra work. Cook led Buffalo's impressive rushing attack last season with 207 carries for 1,009 yards and a shocking 16 touchdowns (after scoring just twice on the ground in the two years prior) in the regular season, while Davis took a back seat with 113 carries for 442 yards and three scores while playing in all 17 regular-season games. At 220 pounds, Davis boasts a significantly larger frame than Cook or Johnson, which resulted in him facing more stacked boxes and suffering in terms of efficiency compared to his backfield mates. However, his size also makes it conceivable that more of the Bills' scoring opportunities on the ground could swing his way in Year 2.

Bills' Ray Davis: Takes backseat in loss to Chiefs
Rotowire
Davis carried the ball twice for four yards during Sunday's 32-29 loss to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
Davis was less involved out of the backfield than both James Cook (13-85-2) and Ty Johnson (6-19-0), concluding the playoffs with just seven carries for 36 yards and one score across three postseason appearances. In the regular season, the rookie fourth-round pick suited up for all 17 games, rushing 113 times for 442 yards (3.9 YPC) with two touchdowns. He also had 17 catches for 189 yards and another three scores on 19 targets. Johnson is now set to hit free agency, while Cook is entering the final year of his rookie deal, so Davis could have a chance to carve out an expanded backfield role Year 2.

Bills' Ray Davis: Remains in concussion protocol
Rotowire
Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Friday that Davis is still in the NFL's concussion protocol, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
Davis was forced out of Buffalo's wild-card win over the Broncos in the second half, and though he's since managed to practice in a limited capacity during one walkthrough and one full session, his status remains uncertain for Sunday's divisional-round game against Baltimore. The rookie fourth-round pick will need to gain full medical clearance, including from an independent neurologist, in order to be allowed to suit up versus the Ravens. Friday's official practice report likely will label Davis questionable to play Sunday.

Bills' Ray Davis: Remains limited Thursday
Rotowire
Davis (concussion) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday.
Davis suffered a concussion in the second half of this past Sunday's wild-card win against the Broncos. Since then, he logged a limited walkthrough Wednesday and maintained that activity level one day later, albeit while donning a red non-contact jersey, per Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com. In the end, Davis will be subject to an examination from an independent neurologist in order to have a chance to play Sunday versus the Ravens.

Bills' Ray Davis: Puts in limited practice
Rotowire
Davis (concussion) was a limited participant in Wednesday's walk-through practice.
Though Davis remains in the five-step concussion protocol, he's apparently made enough progress since suffering the head injury in Sunday's 31-7 win over the Broncos in the wild-card round to take part in non-contact portions of practice. He'll likely need to be cleared for contact by Friday's practice in addition to receiving clearance from an independent neurologist before being removed from the protocol. If Davis isn't available for Sunday's divisional-round game against the Ravens, Ty Johnson and practice-squad member Frank Gore (if elevated) would be the available depth options behind lead back James Cook.

Bills' Ray Davis: Exits Sunday's game
Rotowire
Davis is being evaluated for a head injury during Sunday's wild-card round game against the Broncos.
Prior to his exit from the contest, Davis carried once for three yards. In his absence, James Cook and Ty Johnson are left to handle Buffalo's backfield duties versus Denver.

Bills' Ray Davis: Five carries in Week 16
Rotowire
Davis rushed five times for 12 yards and caught his lone target for 17 yards in Sunday's 24-21 win over the Patriots.
Davis was on the field for just 14 of the Bills' 59 offensive snaps, the fewest of any Buffalo running back behind Ty Johnson (23) and James Cook (21). Barring an injury to either Cook or Johnson, Davis will continue to be an unreliable fantasy option going forward. The Bills will host the Jets in Week 17.

Bills' Ray Davis: Finds end zone against Detroit
Rotowire
Davis rushed seven times for 15 yards and caught both of his targets for 14 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 48-42 win over the Lions.
Davis scored his second receiving touchdown of the 2024 campaign in Week 15, bringing him to five total touchdowns so far this season. The rookie running back played just 18 of the Bills 70 offensive snaps, but he was able to make the most of his limited opportunities in the contest. Going forward, Davis is likely to continue to share playing time with Ty Johnson behind starter James Cook. For that reason, Davis remains an unreliable fantasy option barring an injury to Cook. The Bills host the Patriots in Week 16.

Bills' Ray Davis: Non-factor in loss
Rotowire
Davis didn't receive any carries or draw any targets while playing 13 snaps on offense in Sunday's 44-42 loss to the Rams.
Davis went without a touch for the first time all season, with the rookie running back working behind both James Cook (27 snaps) and Ty Johnson (21). Despite the lack of opportunity at the moment, Davis remains a valuable insurance policy in the event Cook misses time down the stretch.

Bills' Ray Davis: Handles three carries in win
Rotowire
Davis rushed three times for six yards in Sunday's 30-20 win over the Colts.
Davis was minimally involved in Sunday's contest, as the rookie running back was on the field for just 11 of the Bills' 74 offensive snaps while starter James Cook played 41 snaps. As long as the latter remains healthy, the 25-year-old Davis should continue to see limited usage out of Buffalo's backfield. Davis is best viewed as solid insurance policy behind Cook going forward. The Bills will host the Chiefs in Week 11.

Bills' Ray Davis: Sleeper RBs
Rotowire
Davis caught a 63-yard touchdown in Week 9 against Miami and finished with four carries for 20 yards and, two catches for 70 yards and the touchdown for 17 PPR points. He also managed five carries for 41 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 6 yards on one target in Week 7 against Tennessee for 11.7 PPR points. In Week 8 at Seattle, Davis had six carries for 29 yards and no targets for 2.9 PPR points, and all three of these games were played in tandem with James Cook. He's not getting much work, but he's providing some big plays as the backup to Cook. Given the matchup against the Colts, I don't mind taking a chance on Davis this week as a flex option in deeper leagues.

Bills' Ray Davis: Gets free for 63-yard receiving TD
Rotowire
Davis rushed four times for 20 yards while catching both of his targets for 70 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Dolphins.
Most of Davis' production came on a 63-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter. He finished third among Bills running backs in rushing yards behind James Cook (10 carries for 44 yards) and Ty Johnson (three carries for 23 yards). Cook will likely continue to lead Buffalo's backfield in touches as long as he's healthy, so while Davis has flashed promising skills as both a rusher and a pass catcher, the rookie fourth-round pick's short-term fantasy value is capped by a lack of opportunities.

Bills' Ray Davis: Minimal role in easy win
Rotowire
Davis had six carries for 29 yards and was not targeted in the passing game during Sunday's 31-10 win over the Seahawks.
After two weeks of big production -- which probably came at a cheap value in the fantasy world -- the fourth-round rookie took a clear back seat Week 8 while starter James Cook ran wild over the Seattle defense for 133 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. Davis did see action on 22 percent of the offensive snaps for the second straight week, but no matter how well Davis has been performing, this is a good reminder that this is not a timeshare in Buffalo. At the very least, Davis has used October to put himself clearly ahead of Ty Johnson (no carries Week 7 or Week 8) as the No. 2 option in the Buffalo backfield.
