  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Injures thumb on MNF

Sewell suffered a thumb injury in Monday night's win over 49ers, but coach Dan Campbell said Sewell shouldn't miss any time, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports. Sewell was able to finish the game without much of an issue, so it sounds like the team expects him to be out there next Sunday night against the Vikings with the division title and the No. 1 seed in the NFC on the line. If Sewell were unable to play, Dan Skipper would be the next man up at right tackle for Detroit.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Good to go vs. Bucs

Sewell (ankle) is active for Sunday's game versus Tampa Bay. Despite missing Detroit's first two practices during the week, Sewell will continue to play through his lingering ankle injury in Week 2. He should see a healthy dose of reps across from both Yaya Diaby and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Questionable for Week 2

Sewell (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest versus Tampa Bay. Sewell has been dealing with an ankle injury since late August, but he was able to play Week 1 versus the Rams. However, the right tackle sat out of practice both Wednesday and Thursday this week before logging a limited session Friday. If Sewell is unable to suit up Sunday, Dan Skipper may be asked to step into a starting role.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Should be good for Week 1

Head coach Dan Campbell appeared optimistic Saturday that Sewell (ankle) will be good to go for Week 1 against the Rams, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports. Sewell was forced to leave Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury, but the MRI came back negative. Sewell has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons as the Lions' starting right tackle, and he has started in all 50 regular-season games he's played over the last three years.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Avoids serious injury

The Lions classified the foot injury Sewell suffered in Wednesday's practice as a rolled ankle after an MRI returned negative, Jared Ramsey of the Detroit Free Press reports. After sustaining the injury, Sewell was able to walk off the field and into the team's facility under his own power. With the MRI bringing good news, the expectation is that Sewell will be ready to go for the Lions' Week 1 matchup with the Rams on Sept. 8. The 23-year-old right tackle made Pro Bowls both of the past two seasons and has played 50 of 51 games since entering the NFL as a first-round pick in 2021.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Returns to practice

Sewell (concussion) participated in Lions camp Wednesday after missing the three prior practices with a head injury, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. Sewell suffered a brain injury less than a week ago but has since been cleared to return to the field. Detroit will be happy to have their cornerstone tackle back, as he's started every game for the Lions since being drafted in 2021 and has already received Pro Bowl honors. Expect the 22-year-old to continue holding down the right side of Detroit's offensive line for years to come.
