• Commanders' Javontae Jean-Baptiste: Placed on injured reserve

  Rotowire Oct 19, 2026

The Commanders placed Jean-Baptiste (pectoral) on injured reserve Monday. Jean-Baptiste was already ruled out for Monday night's game against the 49ers due to a pectoral injury, which is severe enough for the third-year pro to go on IR. He's required to miss at least four games, so the earliest he is eligible to return is for Week 11 against the Bengals on Monday, Nov. 23.

• Commanders' Javontae Jean-Baptiste: Will remain on IR

  Rotowire Dec 16, 2025

Coach Dan Quinn confirmed today that no players on injured reserve, including Jean-Baptiste (pectoral), will return for the end of the year, Tom Schad of The Washington Post reports. Jean-Baptiste was forced to undergo surgery for the pectoral injury he suffered in the Commanders' Week 4 loss to the Falcons. The defensive end played just three games this season, totalling six tackles (two solo), including 1.0 sacks. With a near guarantee that his season is over, the 25-year-old will have to look toward a 2026 return to the field.

• Commanders' Javontae Jean-Baptiste: Shifts to IR

  Rotowire Oct 1, 2025

Jean-Baptiste (pectoral) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. The 2024 seventh-round pick from Notre Dame tore his pectoral during the Week 4 loss to the Falcons, so it's no surprise he's been placed on IR. Jean-Baptiste played 71 total snaps (59 on defense, 12 on special teams) over three games this season, recording six total tackles. Preston Smith is likely to see increased defensive work while Jean-Baptiste remains sidelined for at least the Commanders' next four games.

• Commanders' Javontae Jean-Baptiste: Set to undergo surgery

  Rotowire Sep 29, 2025

Jean-Baptiste will undergo surgery for a torn pectoral that he suffered during the Commanders' 34-27 loss to the Falcons on Sunday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Jean-Baptiste is expected to be placed on injured reserve following the surgery, and head coach Dan Quinn relayed Monday that the recovery timeline is "usually months, not weeks." Jean-Baptiste will will be on the IR well past the four-game minimum, but it's unclear whether he can return toward the end of the regular season or for the postseason, if the Commanders qualify. Jalyn Holmes should see an uptick in playing time at defensive end, but Washington can also turn to veteran Preston Smith, who was a healthy scratch in each of the Commanders' last two games after signing with the team Sept. 16.

• Commanders' Javontae Jean-Baptiste: May have torn pectoral

  Rotowire Sep 28, 2025

Jean-Baptiste will undergo an MRI on a pectoral injury that he suffered during the Commanders' 34-27 loss to the Falcons on Sunday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Per Jhabvala, the Commanders fear that Jean-Baptiste tore his pec during Sunday's loss, which would likely necessitate a lengthy stint on injured reserve. The Commanders received much-needed depth at defensive end by signing Preston Smith (coach's decision) earlier in September, and the veteran could be active for Week 5 against the Chargers on Sunday, Oct. 5 if Jean-Baptiste is sidelined. Jalyn Holmes would also be in line for a significant increase in defensive snaps.
