  • Kazmeir Allen: Dropped by Washington

Allen was waived by the Commanders on Tuesday, Zach Selby of the team's official website reports. Allen turned 11 carries into 45 yards while also adding nine kickoff returns for 229 yards and a punt return for two yards over three preseason contests with Washington. If the running back clears waivers, there's a good chance he sticks around as a member of the Commanders' practice squad.

  • Commanders' Kazmeir Allen: Lands on practice squad injured list

The Commanders placed Allen (ankle) on their practice squad injured list Tuesday. Allen suffered an ankle injury during practice this past Wednesday and was spotted with a walking boot and crutches while leaving the team's facility Friday, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. Allen was on the Commanders' practice squad after failing to make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp, but he wasn't elevated for a regular-season game. The 24-year-old will shift his attention to recovering from his ankle injury and to be healthy enough to compete for a roster spot in 2025.

  • Kazmeir Allen: Let go by Washington

Allen was waived by the Commanders on Tuesday, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports. Allen was unable to make the team despite the recent trade of Jahan Dotson, a relatively open receiver room behind Terry McLaurin and a Deebo Samuel comparison from Washington's offensive coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury, almost a week ago. The wide receiver had four carries for 15 yards and one catch for 12 yards during the preseason.

  • Commanders' Kazmeir Allen: Draws Deebo comp from OC

Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury mentioned that Allen's "explosive" traits remind him of Deebo Samuel, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports. Listed as a wide receiver, Allen has been getting reps out of the backfield in Washington. "He's a guy that we could see similar -- I'm not comparing -- but Deebo type role to move him around, do different things," Kingsbury said, via John Keim of ESPN.com. "He has that type of explosiveness and ability to play in the slot or you can hand it to him." Allen went undrafted out of UCLA last year and spent much of 2023 on the Commanders' practice squad. He has four carries for 15 yards and a fumble this preseason, adding one catch for 12 yards on two targets. Washington's wideout room is wide open behind Terry McLaurin following Thursday's trade of Jahan Dotson to the Eagles.

  • Commanders' Kazmeir Allen: Stays with Washington

Allen re-signed with the Commanders on Thursday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Allen got a chance with Washington as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA, and although he was unable to make the team out of camp, he did secure a spot on their practice squad. The 23-year-old will now get another opportunity with the team for the 2024 campaign, where he'll likely work to earn a role as a return man or a depth option at receiver.

  • Kazmeir Allen: Won't make team

Allen was waived by the Commanders on Tuesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Allen joined the team as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA in May. After missing OTAs later that month due to a hamstring issue, he was able to take the field for training camp to attempt to earn a roster spot. Ultimately, the 23-year-old was unable to do so and will now have to hope for a spot on the practice squad.
