Pline was sidelined for all of the 2025 season due to an upper body injury, but his signing with the Chiefs on Wednesday suggests he's moved past the issue. The Furman product has yet to appear in an NFL game after catching 32 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns across 11 games during his final collegiate season in 2023.

Pline left Sunday's 27-13 preseason loss to the Chargers a little worse for wear, sustaining an undisclosed upper-body injury in the contest. The 49ers signed Pline (undisclosed) to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Pline first latched on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in May. He was waived just before the start of the regular season but then rejoined the organization as part of the practice squad. Pline was placed on the practice-squad injured list due to an undisclosed issue in mid-December but now appears to be past that issue. He'll have the opportunity to compete for a roster spot during training camp next summer.

Pline joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Furman, but he was released along with fellow tight ends Logan Thomas and Eric Saubert as part of the team's final roster cuts Tuesday. With these three gone, Jake Tonges is currently set to serve as the lone backup behind starter George Kittle. Pline will now be subject to waivers, and, if he goes unclaimed, he'll be free to sign elsewhere ahead of the regular season.
