It took one preseason game to see all that's great with Love's talent -- and one injury in that game to bring us back to reality. Expected to heal from a high-ankle sprain through the end of August, Love remains on the Fantasy radar as a No. 2 running back in redraft leagues worth taking in Round 3. In long-term formats like Dynasty leagues he's the clear 1.01, even in Superflex. The idea of Love being used like a workhorse took a hit with the ankle sprain, but that doesn't mean his touches will be limited for long. Arizona's offense is loaded with playmakers but no one is like Love thanks to his incredible speed and uncanny ability to cut, juke, spin and hurdle his way out of defenders' grasps. Hurting his cause is a suspect Cardinals offensive line, a deep RB room behind him including veterans Tyler Allgeier and James Conner, and arguably the toughest schedule any team has this year. Tack on a possible slow-ish start and Love is best reserved for a top-35 pick, not a top-25 pick.

Cardinals' Jeremiyah Love: Doing rehab work Wednesday

Love (ankle) was spotted doing some light agility work with trainers ahead of Wednesday's practice, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.
Love emerged from his only action of the preseason Aug. 13 with a high-ankle sprain that has sidelined him from practice and one exhibition in the meantime. While his ability to get in some work Wednesday is an encouraging step in his recovery, he's likely still some time away from mixing back into drills. Tyler Allgeier will continue to handle the bulk of the first-team RB reps until Love is healthy.

Cardinals' Jeremiyah Love: Remains sidelined by ankle issue

Coach Mike LaFleur said Monday that Love is progressing in his recovery from a high-ankle sprain but will remain sidelined this week, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Love emerged from preseason Week 1 with an ankle injury that eventually was revealed to be severe enough to require a multi-week absence. While LaFleur relayed last Thursday that Love won't need surgery, the rookie third overall pick won't play again during exhibition season, meaning his next chance for game action is Sunday, Sept. 13 at the Chargers. If Love isn't able to go in the season opener, Tyler Allgeier likely will be Arizona's lead runner in that contest.

Cardinals' Jeremiyah Love: Out at least a week

Head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters Saturday that Love will be sidelined for at least a week by an ankle injury that he sustained during the Cardinals' 27-14 preseason win over the Raiders on Thursday, Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com reports.
LaFleur noted during Saturday's press conference that Love was "a little more sore than anticipated" following Thursday's exhibition game. With Love not practicing this week, he's unlikely to be available for Arizona's next preseason game, which takes place Saturday, Aug. 22, against Dallas. Prior to his injury, the No. 3 overall pick of this year's draft put together a solid stat line against Las Vegas, turning 11 carries into 58 yards while hauling in all three targets for 14 yards. With both Love and James Conner (foot) sidelined, Tyler Allgeier figures to see most of the first-team reps during practice this week, with Trey Benson, Bam Knight, Corey Kiner and Evan Hull all in line for additional reps.

Love rushed 11 times for 58 yards and brought in all three targets for 14 yards in the Cardinals' 27-14 preseason win over the Raiders on Thursday.
The rookie first-round pick was the first Cardinals running back to garner a touch in the contest, logging two rush attempts and a reception on the opening possession. Love had eight- and nine-yard runs on Arizona's second drive and back-to-back 14- and 16-yard scampers the third time the Cardinals had the ball. It was a highly efficient showing overall for Love in his first taste of NFL game action, and he clearly became more comfortable the longer he remained in the game. The third overall pick should have additional opportunity to tune up for his first season in the Cardinals' second preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 22 at home against the Cowboys.

Per usual, both teams are holding out most of their starters and many key backups for the first game of the NFL preseason. The Cardinals selected Love in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, third overall.
Love (6-feet, 212 pounds) might not quite be on the level of recent blue-chip running back prospects like Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs, yet the former Notre Dame standout finds himself drafted earlier than either. With such mammoth draft capital invested the Cardinals are compelled to feed Love, but Arizona might also find itself with the most crowded backfield in the league. Power back Tyler Allgeier was added with a two-year, $12.5 million contract in free agency, and the duo of James Conner and Trey Benson remain third and fourth on the depth chart, for the time being. Love is an automatic big-play threat as both a runner and pass catcher, leveraging his 4.36 speed with elusiveness and power. The one question is how much of a workload Love can withstand, especially in terms of power running. Love is a bit upright for a running back and might lack the anchor to be a regular 20-carry running back. That Allgeier is around means the Cardinals won't need to overwork Love.
